Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 Review (8/10)
Sonic The Hedgehog, perhaps Sega's most iconic gaming character in their 20-year history, is back. No, wait, don't leave- it's for real this time! In this new downloadable entry, Sega America have seen it fit to send their mascot back to his two-dimensional, side-scrolling days, a move fans have been petitioning for ever since the character was near-truly realised in the daytime levels of Sonic Unleashed. As you'd expect from a release of this kind, little has changed to the original Mega Drive games, a blessing or curse depending on which generation you are a part of. What I mean by this is that, should you have been there in what thousands of fans call the 'glory days', attempting speed-runs through levels and entire instalments, this return to form will be welcome and comfortably familiar. However, should you perhaps originate from this century, or perhaps the 1990s, then this method of game-play may seem totally unrevolutionary and make you feel as if your bucks were wasted. For this reason, Sonic The Hedgehog 4 is a hard title to review, but simply put if you've ever loved the classic Sonic games (or Mario Bros- there's a lot of similarities to that platformer here too), then have no second thoughts about buying this. If this era of the franchise seems a little outdated to you, the sequel may not be your cup of tea.
