Grown Ups Review (4.5/5)
I don't find Adam Sandler funny. As heretical a statement that might sound, if you go back and look at some of his latest flicks such as Funny People and Bedtime Stories, you'll see his humour can wear thin very quickly over his on-screen time. So, then, it's a testament to new film Grown Ups' hilarity that Sandler's casting in the lead role of Lenny doesn't detract at all (while it doesn't add tons either). Grown Ups has a simple premise: having won a championship basketball game 30 years before, a group of middle-aged men come together on the 4th of July 2008 to celebrate and reconcile their differences, while also teaching their kids to play things other than video games and having a laugh with Arrow Roulette (just wait and see...) and a water park. All of the actors do a superb job of keeping up the jokes since the plot itself is noticeably predictable, and would be too much so were Grown Ups not so damn funny. Kevin "Paul Blart" James and Sandler both ensure barely a scene will go by where they're not creating some form of comedy so that while at times they drag the 2 hours you're in the cinema are fun and entertaining. Grown Ups will be out in UK cinemas on August the 27th, a date close by to the release of Dinner For Schmucks, so there'll be a fierce comedy competition heating up this September, but overall I'd definitely give this a recommendation for parents, comedy-lovers or non-street-wise teens!
