Doctor Who Anniversary Season Images, Details Released

Doctor Who - Series 7B Iconic ImageThe Doctor and Clara return for a season of blockbuster adventures this month!
Kicking off its 50th Anniversary year televisual celebrations in style, Doctor Who will return for a season of eight blockbuster adventures later this month. We've known about the show's impending return to our screens since January, yet today has seen a wealth of new promotional material for the anniversary season (or Series Seven Part Two, depending how you like it to be referenced!) emerge courtesy of the BBC Press Team.

First up, we've got the gleaming new image of the latest TARDIS crew- the Eleventh Doctor and the modern regular version of Clara Oswald- atop a motorbike, descending shattered fractions of London's iconic landmark The Shard in the skies. Look close here or in the blog's cover image for March above, and you may even spot appearing monsters old and new, including the Spoonheads, the Faceless Ones, a beast of some kind, the Cybermen and the deadly Ice Warriors amongst terrible threats further still to come.

  • ON THE BELLS OF ST JOHN- The first big announcement of the BBC's colossal press release on the anniversary season was that the premiere episode will be called The Bells Of St John. Penned by showrunner Steven Moffat, the urban thriller adventure will be "set against the backdrop of new and old iconic landmarks, the Shard and Westminster Bridge" and introduce a new nemesis, the Spoonheads (glimpsed in the promo image), "who will battle the Doctor as he discovers something sinister lurking in the Wi-Fi." Bells will also introduce the permanent version of Clara in her modern guise onto the scene, so don't expect another fateful death from Jenna-Louise Coleman's character(s)!
  • ON THE ANNIVERSARY SEASON- Steven Moffat gave his usual very-exciting promotional speech on just what we can expect from this breathtaking season of movie-like adventures as a whole. Here's what he had to say: "It's the 50th year of Doctor Who, and look what's going on! We're up in the sky and under the sea! We're running round the rings of an alien world and then a haunted house. There's new Cybermen, new Ice Warriors and a never before attempted journey to the center of the TARDIS. And in the finale, the Doctor's greatest secret will at last be revealed! If this wasn't already our most exciting year, it would be anyway!"
The BBC Press Release also confirms that the massive guest cast line-up for Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary season includes Celia Imrie (Cranford, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), Warwick Davis (Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi; Life's Too Short; An Idiot Abroad 3; Harry Potter), Tamzin Outwaithe (Eastenders), Jessica Raine (Call The Midwife's lead star), Liam Cunningham (Game Of Thrones), Richard E Grant (returning as Doctor Who: The Snowmen's Dr Simeon), Alex Kingston (as River Song) and many more acclaimed actors still to be announced. Expect the first trailer for the new season of blockbuster adventures to be revealed in the next few days.

Doctor Who returns to BBC1 on Easter Saturday, March 30th.
