EXCLUSIVE: Doctor Who: 12 Doctors, 12 Stories Gift Edition Delayed? (UPDATE, 05-11-2014)

Source: Amazon.co.uk
It turns out that the eponymous Time Lord isn't the only one who suffers from timekeeping issues...
Penguin Books' Doctor Who: 12 Doctors, 12 Stories Gift Edition box-set appears to have been delayed, On-Screen can exclusively reveal. Originally scheduled to be released today (October 30th), the special edition package comprises of twelve paperback books - each of which contains a short story written by a famed author of children's literature such as Patrick Ness and Holly Black - and a dozen exclusive postcards designed to highlight the aesthetic attire of the twelve incarnations of the science-fiction drama's eternal protagonist we've met over the course of its 51-year history.

The situation was brought to attention this morning when - in spite of both online retailers listing the Gift Edition's publication date as October 30th - Amazon.co.uk revealed that the box-set's current availability status as "temporarily out of stock" and Waterstones.co.uk only offered the same pre-order option which had been available to their consumers prior to today. That's by no means the end of the story, however - we asked Holly Black, author of the set's Twelfth Doctor tale (entitled "Lights Out"), whether she had learned of any publication setbacks, after which we received the following response from the Spiderwick Chronicles scribe on Twitter:
We've yet to receive official confirmation from Penguin or the official Twitter account for Who-themed literary publications. If and when the On-Screen team learns further information regarding the presumably revised release date of this much-anticipated commemorative compilation,  however, we'll endeavour to update this article with the relevant details shortly after they emerge.

UPDATE (05-11-2014, 6.55pm) - Further to the speculation we posted above last week, On-Screen has just received word from Penguin Books that the Doctor Who: 12 Doctors, 12 Stories Gift Edition package has been delayed. However, the publishers also informed us that "[the products] will be with retailers in the next few weeks" before respectfully apologising for the mishap. We've included the message Penguin sent us via Twitter below:

Doctor Who 2013 Specials Original Television Soundtrack Announced

st-50th
Source: The Doctor Who Site - Merchandise Guide
Who's ready to experience the tunes which made last year's celebrations a hit? After all, that's how it all started!
Silva Screen Records have today announced the distribution of an album compiling the various pieces of instrumental music used in the two feature-length episodes of Doctor Who which aired in time for the programme's 50th Anniversary last Winter. Titled Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor / The Time of the Doctor - Original Television Soundtrack, the two-disc set will play host to familiar melodies inspired by the hit science-fiction drama's past - "We Are The Doctors" and "This Time There's Three Of Us (The Majestic Tale)" amongst them - as well as a multitude of tracks that made their critically acclaimed premières in its 50th Anniversary mini-movie and 2013 Christmas Special such as "Song for Four / Home", "Rhapsody of War" and, of course, "Hello Twelve".

Given the supreme quality of each and every one of Silva's previous Original Television Soundtrack releases, one might consider it damn near churlish to complain about the recording studio's present release strategy, but indulge us for a moment, as we're going to be so bold as to level the following criticism in The Day of the Doctor / The Time of the Doctor's direction: why's this particular CD only landing nearly a year on from "Day"'s broadcast (in fact, a year and a day will have passed by the time the set lands in music retailers)? Disheartening as the reality may be, to us it's all too obvious that this delay has been enacted purely as a result of cynical marketing (and therefore potential profit) rather than a genuine effort on Murray Gold and company's part to commemorate Who's 51st Anniversary. Birthday presents of this calibre aren't ever going to be turned away by us or any other dedicated members of the series' fandom, naturally, yet we'd sincerely appreciate it in future if Silva relied less on their commercial instincts and instead simply endeavoured to send these albums our way as soon as is possible without the assistance of a Type 40 TARDIS capsule.

Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor / The Time of the Doctor - Original Television Soundtrack will light up the airwaves via UK music retailers from November 24th onwards.

Marvel Studios 2016-2019 Superhero Film Slate Announced

Source: Screenrant
Welcome, lords, ladies and Asgardians, to what we here on the planet Earth call the Golden Age of superhero cinema...
"Let's talk about Phase Three." With these momentous (and much-awaited, we might add) words, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige kicked off a ground-breaking one-off event themed around announcing the title of each and every instalment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's latest sub-franchise of eagerly anticipated superhero films. Taking place in the El Capitan Theatre, Los Angeles, on Tuesday October 28th, the much-discussed gathering in question played host to hundreds upon hundreds of near-starved fans, each of whom were naturally anxious to discover what's coming next.

Two days on, and it seems a reasonably safe assertion to proclaim that the studio delivered tenfold on their prolonged teasing of major changes aplenty for their prized multi-medium universe. Whether it was in the form of female-led or non-Caucasian-led big-screen outings (Black Panther and Captain Marvel fulfil those respective roles, for those wondering), a two-part Avengers crossover event to match DC's recently-announced duo of intertwined Justice League motion pictures - the latter of which will in fact go head-to-head with the tantalisingly-named Infinity War - Part 2 come 2019 - or a pair of voyages to the unknown with both Doctor Strange and Inhumans, Feige and company left nothing up to chance here, confirming the extent to which they've mapped out their multi-faceted saga of high-octane heroism and colossally intricate story arcs in such style that they might as well have rolled the various never-before-seen title cards down a full-scale catwalk. Enough of our justifiable expression of utter admiration for Marvel's sustained ambition (not to mention their continued dedication to interacting on an unparalleled level with their ever-loyal fandom), though - let's get down to business and reveal the slate in full (feel free to weep tears of unrestrained joy afterwards if necessary):

  • CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR (May 6th, 2016) - As previously rumoured by Variety, here we'll see the titular American Avenger face off against Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man (and Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther, potentially - more on him later!) in a confrontation for the ages whilst simultaneously dealing with the aftermath of The Winter Soldier's politically charged storyline and the emergence of the infamous - due in no small part to the comic-book arc which gives this third Captain America outing its sub-title (credit to Feige for pulling the wool over our eyes by calling it Serpent Society at first) - Superhero Registration Act to boot.
  • DOCTOR STRANGE (November 4th, 2016) - Remember that rumour which did the rounds last week surrounding Benedict Cumberbatch's supposed ascension into the role of the Sorcerer Supreme? Well, as it happens, said leak mightn't have been as unlikely as it originally seemed at the time of its emergence, although a few i's need to be dotted and t's crossed before anything's official on that front. All the same, though, to know for certain that Scott Derrickson is hard at work on bringing Jon Spaihts' screenplay to life (with the help of a little magic, of course) is more than enough to go on for now.
  • GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 (May 5th, 2017) - Like Civil War, we knew this one was on the way sometime in the foreseeable future thanks to James Gunn's revelation of the development of a sequel to this year's best loved sci-fi comedy at Comic-Con 2014, but what we didn't know until this week is that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (or whatever the follow-up ends up being called come release day) will hit two months earlier than planned, leaving a certain Asgardian epic to take its original place...
  • THOR: RAGNAROK (July 28th, 2017) - Talk about foreshadowing, eh? In case readers haven't heard the term "ragnarok" before, it refers to the mythical End of Days, namely an apocalyptic event which has befallen Asgard on multiple occasions in the realms of Marvel's comic-book universe. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are both confirmed to reprise their roles as Thor and Loki respectively here, but don't be surprised in the slightest if only one of them (if that!) makes it out of their latest fraught quest alive!
  • BLACK PANTHER (November 3rd, 2017) - Feige hasn't exactly been shy about voicing his infinite enthusiasm for the aforementioned King of T'challa, making his fully-fledged début in a standalone MCU outing - which will follow hot on the heels of his arch-nemesis' purported first appearance in Age of Ultron and his own brief appearances in Civil War - more of a pleasant confirmation of the influence which Marvel Studios' commander-in-chief holds over their ongoing release strategy.
  • CAPTAIN MARVEL (July 6th, 2018) - Can anyone hear that sound? No? We're not surprised - it's the sound of silence. To be a little more specific, it's the intangible noise one hears when a thousand voices cease their cries of discontent at superhero film helmers' seemingly phallo-centric approach to bringing comic-book characters to the big-screen, and it has all come about thanks to DC and Marvel's unveiling of their respective Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel adaptations. Jesting aside, we fail to see how this development could possibly be viewed in a cynical light, not least since Carol Danvers - the character who'll inherit the other Cap's mantle in the MCU - is amongst the latter publisher's most coveted constructs and if that's not justification enough, then Scarlet Johannson's sublime work as Black Widow should be all the evidence we need to warrant a production of this ilk.
  • INHUMANS (November 2nd, 2018) - Spider-Man and the X-Men may well be staying put at Sony Pictures and 20th Century Fox for the time being, yet as ever, that's not stopping Feige from venturing as close to the quasi-fantastical realms of the latter team of mutants (a word which in itself is a major taboo for Marvel given Fox's ownership of the word in relation to their remarkably popular X-series) as possible. Whereas the vast majority of MCU motion pictures centre on a single death-defying defender of the weak, Inhumans will introduce literally dozens of new constructs into the mix, with each of them no doubt set to play a vital role in the final pair of blockbusters featured on this list...
  • AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - PART 1 & PART 2 (May 4th, 2018 & May 3rd, 2019) - Ultron, believe it or not, is essentially small fry as a threat to the Earth's Mightiest Heroes when juxtaposed with the Master of Death, Thanos himself. First glimpsed back in 2012's Avengers Assemble, this near-omnipotent adversary made a long-awaited return in Guardians of the Galaxy earlier this year before revealing himself to possess all six Infinity Gems within his iconic gauntlet during a sensational teaser trailer shown only to event-goers on Tuesday. Word has it that Infinity War will act as a "culmination" to - by then - over a decade's worth of high-flying adventures, bringing together each and every major character featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far in order to rally against an enemy who'll bring the Nine Realms to their knees in an instant should he be left unopposed. Enjoy trying to cope with three tiresome years of waiting, folks...
All of this apparently wasn't more than enough to keep us going until Avengers: Age of Ultron, though, since Feige then went on to partake in a Q&A with the press regarding Phase Three and the wider future of his Cinematic Universe (trust us, the franchise isn't going anywhere post-2019 at this rate). Given that we're charitable folks here at On-Screen, we've done our dear readership the profound courtesy of compiling each and every one of the man with a plan's potentially crucial comments into one comprehensive guide. No thanks necessary, of course, but flowers and chocolates won't be refused...
  • ON BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH'S ALLEGED ACQUISITION OF THE ROLE OF DOCTOR STRANGE - "If that had been confirmed, we would've announced him today."
  • ON BLACK PANTHER'S ROLE IN CIVIL WAR - "He is definitely a big part in Civil War. We will meet him for the first time in Civil War, in costume."
  • ON GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2'S NARRATIVE - "Is Groot going to be small? Is Groot going to be big? Is Cosmo going to come back, will he speak? What's that duck doing after he took that swig? Where is the Collector? All of those questions we like having fun with, when [director] James Gunn returns from Tokyo, [...] we'll start to go through with him."
  • ON HULK'S PRESENCE IN PHASE THREE - "I'd say Hulk is going to appear in many of those movies, particularly all the Avengers movies leading up to [...] Infinity War. [...] What happens with a standalone Hulk film? [...] We'll see."
  • ON THE RUMOURS OF SPIDER-MAN'S INDUCTION INTO THE MCU - "No. Anything that wasn't specifically and obviously announced today is either not true at all or still rumoured until it's worked out."
Before all of these explosive motion pictures arrive in cinemas, however, there are still vital chapters of Phase Two for us to bear witness to: Avengers: Age of Ultron, which - by our reckoning, at least - will land in UK cinemas on April 24th, 2015, and Ant-Man, the latter of which will crawl into our auditoriums on July 17th, 2015.

Assassin's Creed Unity "Time Anomaly" Gameplay Trailer Released

Source: Ubisoft
Let's do the time warp again - Arno is going to war in a way we could never have predicted.
Ubisoft Montreal have this week released a new trailer (below) for their impending open-world action-adventure video game Assassin's Creed Unity. The first instalment of the long-running franchise scheduled to be released exclusively on next-generation hardware, Unity depicts the life of Arno Dorian, an up-and-coming vagabond-turned-freedom fighter who must battle to stay alive and bring down the Templar forces conspiring to utilize the ongoing French Revolution to their sinister advantage.

Contrary to popular belief, however, Arno's escapades won't be limited to the event which inspired Les Miserables amongst countless other works of literature - far from it, in fact. In a twist which is sure to take even the most hardened Creed fanatics off guard, it transpires that the Animus players will step into this time around has a tendency to glitch from a temporal perspective, making it liable to 'glitch' and transport our courageous protagonist from the days of the Revolution into other historical conflicts such as - but by no means limited to - the Second World War. Before too long, it seems, we'll scale the Eiffel Tower amidst an explosive air raid taking place somewhere (or should that be some-when?) between 1939 and 1945 as one of the most devastating global confrontations in the history of our species rages on. As bold ventures go, this is up there with the bravest of them and as such, we can only hope that Ubi's Montreal branch know exactly what they're doing as they transcend their franchise's traditional singular era limitations and in doing so journey to a locale of which we who follow in the footsteps of World War Two's participants can only dream.

Assassin's Creed Unity sprints through No Man's Land and onto Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC consoles - along with Rogue on PS3 and 360, lest we forget - this November 14th. Be there or be guillotined.

First Captain America: The Winter Soldier Sequel Guest Star & Plot Details Revealed

Source: Comic Vine
One thing's for sure - with two Avengers on hand, there's no way that Steve Rogers will leave the Iron on!
Variety have this week supposedly revealed the identity of a thespian who'll reprise an iconic role in Marvel Studios' impending follow-up to their hit superhero blockbuster Captain America: The Winter Soldier along with a sizeable handful of details regarding its overarching narrative. The as-of-yet-untitled sequel to perhaps the finest Marvel Cinematic Universe outing to date will once again be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo - who, if readers hadn't already heard, will additionally helm at least one episode of ABC's Marvel's Agent Carter in time for its broadcast next January - and will primarily explore the fallout of both its immediate predecessor and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

If the source in question is to be believed, then a paramount element of this exploration of what it means to be a superhero in the aftermath of the human-led creation of a deadly robotic armada will be Tony Stark, set to be played for the seventh time by none other than Robert Downey Jr. Word has it that Downey Jr. and Marvel Studios' execs battled near-endlessly over the extent of his supporting capacity within (what we'll for now call) Captain America 3's plot, only for resident MCU expert and helmer Kevin Feige to intervene and defend the need for Stark and his iron-clad alter-ego to make a fully-fledged return - and trust us, the reason behind the Armoured Avenger's presence here is the most tantalising detail we've come across since Thanos was confirmed to cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy this Summer.

The plan from here on out appears to be for the MCU to move in the direction of a loose yet dramatically heightened adaptation of the controversial comic-book crossover event known only as "Civil War", with Captain America 3 serving as the first metaphorical building block in this respect. Quite whether Stark and the titular defender of American liberties will come to blows over the infamous Superhero Registration Act - a troublesome piece of legislation which, as its name suggests, forces super-powered individuals to sign up with the government and therefore could well come into effect on-screen if Age of Ultron's narrative leaves New York and/or the rest of the world in ruins for a second consecutive time - here isn't clear just yet, but Variety reckon that at the very least, the "Civil War" arc will span the entirety of Phase Three, meaning that Thanos will be placed on the back-burner for a while, potentially appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 as a major player whilst he bides his time in the hope of obtaining those all-important Infinity Gems.

As unashamed and wholly vocal fans of Walt Disney Studios and Marvel Studios' astounding accomplished multi-medium franchise, we're quietly in favour of their choice to adapt one of the more divisive pieces of source material, even the move could entail a split amongst their fandom in terms of their anticipation for and engagement with what's to come. Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and Thor 3 - better known as the other MCU entries set to comprise Phase Three - don't exactly seem to lend themselves to seamlessly contributing to the aforementioned arc due to the otherworldly nature of the majority of their protagonists, yet at this point, it's starting to seem damn near churlish to lament or question the dynamic duo's creative decisions given the levels of critical and commercial success alike that they've achieved without fail of late. Roll on the future, then!

Captain America 3 ricochets into cinemas worldwide on May 6th, 2016.

New DC Entertainment Superhero Films & Release Dates Announced

Source: Pop Goes Manila
As expected, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is just the beginning of a bold new frontier for all things Detective Comics.
Warner Bros. Pictures have today announced a host of release dates for their upcoming superhero film projects as well as the development of a number of previously unrevealed comic-book adaptations for release between 2016 and 2020. The studio's so-called DC Cinematic Universe - which is currently being developed, as one would anticipate, in collaboration with DC Entertainment - got off to an assured-yet-divisive start in 2013 with the launch of Man of Steel, but it'll be with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that the metaphorical ball starts to gain momentum as it moves towards a two-part adaptation of the beloved ongoing Justice League saga amongst other standalone blockbusters aplenty.

A word of warning before we progress any further in this article, however: there's a more than substantial chance that readers will incur a devastating heart attack as a result of the sheer exhilaration which will inevitably be provoked by the information that we must dutifully impart on this depressingly damp (albeit thrillingly dense) Wednesday evening. Even given all of the scepticism surrounding the rapid nature of DC Entertainment's attempts to match the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's undeniably fascinating to discover the extent to which the studio are planning ahead for the next half-decade, rolling out the first female-led superhero film since 2005's Elektra (and frankly, the less said about that one, the better in our view) in the form of Wonder Woman (starring Fast & Furious' Gal Gadot as the titular mythological Amazonian), not one but three crossover instalments in the form of Dawn of Justice, Justice League - Part 1 and Justice League - Part 2 and to top it all off, they're even being so bold as to revive the Green Lantern franchise, albeit a full nine years after it took for a turn for the worst (to put it generously).

Now that we've ideally gained a firm grasp on your attention, let's cease with the dillying and the dallying and instead commence business for the evening. Without further ado, here's the full line-up of DC Comics-inspired superhero films as was announced during Time Warner's latest investor call earlier this afternoon along with all of the key production details we know so far:
  • BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE (Directed by Zack Snyder; Starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams & Jessie Eisenberg; Out March 25th, 2016)
  • SUICIDE SQUAD (Directed by David Ayer; Out August 5th, 2016)
  • WONDER WOMAN (Starring Gal Gadot; June 23rd, 2017)
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE - PART 1 (Directed by Zack Snyder; Starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill et al; Out November 17th, 2017)
  • THE FLASH (Starring Ezra Miller (We Need to Talk About Kevin; The Perks of Being a Wallflower); Out March 23rd, 2018)
  • AQUAMAN (Starring Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones); Out July 27th, 2018)
  • SHAZAM (Starring Dwayne Johnson; Out April 5th, 2019)
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE - PART 2 (Directed by Zack Synder; Starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill et al; Out June 14th, 2019)
  • CYBORG (Starring Ray Fisher; Out April 3rd, 2020)
  • GREEN LANTERN (Out June 19th, 2020)
  • In addition, at least one standalone film revolving around Batman and one standalone sequel to Man of Steel will apparently launch somewhere in-between 2016 and 2020 too. Quite how DC will manage to film more than a dozen motion pictures in the next five years is almost beyond us, but - at least at this point - we're certainly not going to be found moping about the prospect any-time soon.
Stay tuned to On-Screen in the coming days - if not the coming hours - for all the latest news on the superhero film industry's future, including - but on no account limited to - the inevitable response from Marvel Studios - more on them later tonight - to this rather monumental development!

New The LEGO Movie Spin-Off Film Announced

Source: Deviant Art
No, this isn't a joke (despite what the Crown Prince might have us believe) - the Caped Crusader is returning to cinemas in brick form!
Producer Christopher Miller has today confirmed via Twitter - in a now-deleted but inevitably noticed tweet - that a spin-off from Warner Bros. Pictures' brick-tastic animated blockbuster The LEGO Movie is currently in development. Purportedly set to be directed by Chris McKay - who acted as the animation supervisor for the aforementioned original masterpiece - the latest instalment in the sure-to-be-one-day-dubbed LEGO Cinematic Universe will serve as the franchise's second fully-fledged spin-off outing, the first being the increasingly potent LEGO Ninjago, a bombastic foray into a fictitious realm of gung-ho warriors and mystical creatures that's scheduled to land on the big-screen on September 23rd, 2016.

The prospect of experiencing Ninjago in all of its technicoloured glory in two years' time, however, will for the majority of Detective Comics - that's DC to you and me - fanatics pale in comparison to what's been officially confirmed as the series' next secondary instalment. If the cover image above didn't give it away already, the motion picture in question will centre on none other than the instantly-beloved LEGO incarnation of everyone's favourite Caped Crusader, Batman. Will Arnett's hilariously smug rendition of the Dark Knight had us - and the rest of the world, from what we've heard - in stitches back in March, hence why we're uncontrollably ecstatic to confirm that the Arrested Development thespian will reprise his role once more, a development that's bound to please anyone who couldn't get enough of the manipulative, downright complacent Defender of Gotham when he first graced our screens and débuted his unforgettable dubstep-esque single, "Untitled Self-Portrait" (which we've included at the bottom of this very article for no other reason than to ensure that our loyal readership can't remove it from their heads for the remainder of the weekend). More details on LEGO Batman, LEGO Ninjago and The LEGO Movie 2 - the latter of which is supposedly arriving in 2018, although don't take our word as gospel just yet - are all but guaranteed to arrive in the next few weeks, so stay tuned to On-Screen for all of the latest key info.

LEGO Batman will apparently glide broodingly into cinemas worldwide on May 26th, 2017.

Dad's Army Film Reboot Central Cast Members Announced

Source: BBC
Michael Gambon, Sarah Lancashire and more British greats are officially declaring war on the box office.
BBC Films have this week revealed the identities of the actors who will comprise the central cast ensemble for their upcoming period comedy film Dad's Army. A reboot of the classic 1980s TV series of the same name, the movie will presumably spin a similarly slapstick- and satire-centirc yarn to that of its inspiration, resultantly ditching stars of the original programme such as Arthur Lowe and Clive Dunn in favour of a wealth of renowned and up-and-coming thespians alike, many of whom fans of British telly are sure to recognise instantly.

Surprisingly, in stark contrast to the vast majority of big-screen studios out there at the moment, the Beeb have been hugely forthcoming with regards to production details (at least for this particular project), confirming that the bulk of the motion picture will be filmed in the English county of Yorkshire and that its resident helmer is none other than Oliver Parker, a director who's arguably best known for his work on blockbusters including St. Trinian's and Johnny English Reborn. The crux of their latest promotional press release, though, focused on the aforementioned star-studded cast list, a wholly justifiable strategy on the marketing department's part given the esteem in which the names contained within the list are currently held. Read on below to discover who'll be featuring in a leading capacity at some point during Dad's Army, what their past filmic credentials are and which key construct they're set to portray:
  • TOBY JONES (Doctor Who ("Amy's Choice"); The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) - Captain Mainwaring
  • BILL NIGHY (About Time; Love, Actually; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1) - Sergeant Jones
  • CATHERINE ZETA JONES (Chicago; Rock of Ages) -  BBC News brands Zeta Jones' character as "a glamorous journalist sent to report on the Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard before MI5 discovers that there is a German spy in the fictional British town", so make of that what you will.
  • SIR TOM COURTENAY (Quartet; The Golden Compass) - Corporal Jones
  • MICHAEL GAMBON (The King's Speech; Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) - Private Godfrey
  • BLAKE HARRISON (The Inbetweeners Movie 2; The Inbetweeners Movie) - Private Pike
  • BILL PATERSON (Outlander) - Frazer
  • MARK GATISS (Game of Thrones; Sherlock) - Role TBC
  • SARAH LANCASHIRE (The Sarah Jane Adventures; Last Tango in Halifax) - Role TBC
Stay tuned to On-Screen in the coming months for all the latest coverage on Dad's Army - a release date for which has yet to be officially announced - and each and every one of BBC Films' other upcoming motion picture projects.

The Walking Dead Sixth Season Commissioned

Source: Movie Pilot
The times, they aren't a'changing - those undead hordes just keep on Walking...
AMC Studios have this week announced the commissioning of a sixth season of their long-running fantasy drama The Walking Dead. Based on Robert Kirkman's critically acclaimed graphic novel saga of the same name, the show's ongoing narrative follows the valiant attempts of a band of despondent human warriors to survive amidst a familiar yet chillingly endless zombie apocalypse whilst simultaneously challenging these desperate individuals - not to mention the viewership - to confront the darker aspects of their own personalities and of human nature overall.

Now, we'll be honest, we've yet to see any instalments of this beloved comic-book adaptation beyond its immensely promising pilot outing, but it'd be damn near impossible for those of us who keep a close eye on the development of the more intellectual realms of televised US drama to ignore the extent to which Walking Dead has made its mark since its eight-part début run aired in 2010. That Season Five hasn't even commenced broadcasting on AMC - or FX, its UK equivalent, for that matter - speaks wonders for the faith the studio has evidently invested in the show by prematurely - though doubtless justifiably - confirming another series of quasi-dystopian escapades is on the way, then. Somehow, however, the odds of the show's remarkably loyal fandom looking elsewhere for their weekly dose of undead goodness after the Autumn 2014 - Spring 2015 season appear about as minimal as the chances of the legions of mindless beasts who give the show its name returning to their empty coffins anytime soon - chances are that they'll both be around for a while yet!

The Walking Dead will return for its haunting fifth season on AMC - and, eventually, FX - this Sunday, October 12th.

Inferno Delayed

Source: Ace Showbiz
Until now, Robert Langdon and Han Solo were all set to go head-to-head. Guess who shot first?
ComingSoon.net have just announced a delay in the release schedule of Columbia Pictures' upcoming thriller film Inferno. Picking up where the narratives of 2006's The Da Vinci Code and 2009's Angels & Demons left off, the third instalment in the Robert Langdon blockbuster franchise - each chapter of which simultaneously serves as a fairly faithful adaptation of a Dan Brown novel of the same name - will centre on the aforementioned globe-trotting protagonist's dealings with "an ingenious riddle" and a "chilling adversary" as he utilizes the classic literary text Dante's Inferno in his efforts to overcome his most cryptic challenge to date.

A quick jump through hyperspace was all that Columbia required, it seems, in order to feel comfortable enough to launch the long-awaited follow-up to Angels in not-so-close proximity to the worldwide release of Star Wars Episode VII. The two blockbuster behemoths were originally due to duke it out for the box office crown - and like it or not, it doesn't take a Bothan spy to work out which motion picture would have come out on top - on December 18th, 2015, yet in opting for an October 2016 release window instead, the studio have effectively guaranteed that their latest project will have ample opportunity to thrive commercially as well as providing the production team with more time to make any necessary editorial or tonal improvements in the process. Stay tuned to On-Screen in the coming months as we delve further into the realms of Dante's most famous work and the immediate implications it'll have for Langdon and whoever's unlucky enough to find themselves as his assistant as the quest gets underway.

Inferno will now blaze into cinemas across the globe on October 14th, 2016.

Gogglebox Charity Special Rumoured

Source: The Independent
Ever wanted to see what some of Britain's biggest celebrities think of the week's telly? Now may well be your best chance!
The Daily Mail have this week reported that a charity special of Channel 4's domestic mockumentary Gogglebox has been commissioned for broadcast on the UK television network later this month. According to the tabloid publication, the new one-off episode will temporarily shift the programme's focus away from its weekly ensemble of lovable couch-bound commentators to the living rooms of a number of renowned celebrities including - but by no means limited to - Noel Gallagher and Kate Moss.

Better yet, the cause which the instalment in question is purportedly intended to raise funds for and awareness of as part of a wider Children in Need-esque telethon event - in which there'll moreover be comedy sketches featuring the likes of Jamie Oliver and Martin Freeman - is a worthwhile one indeed. Stand Up to Cancer ceaselessly seeks to rally the citizens of Britannia in particular against one of the most prominent and infinitely complex diseases of the 21st Century, if not of our time as a species, an affliction which we're sure that the vast majority of our readership will sadly have encountered in some form already during their lifetimes and which therefore is doubly in need of our attention. Keep it locked at On-Screen for official confirmation of this truly intriguing rumour as and when it arrives, not to mention the opportunity to bear witness to any promotional videos that are released between now and the telethon's nationwide broadcast.

Gogglebox continues this Friday, October 10th at 9pm on Channel 4 with its hilarious third episode, while the live Stand Up to Cancer telethon programme will air via precisely the same channel on October 17th.

Arrow Season Three & The Flash UK Première Dates Announced

Source: Movie Pilot
Only three weeks separate us from the return of two spellbinding superhero shows - finally, there's Justice in the world!
Sky1 have today announced UK première dates for the third season and pilot episode of The CW's superhero dramas Arrow and The Flash respectively. Unlike the former programme of the pair, which is returning off the back of its most popular run to date, the latter - a direct spin-off which will crossover with Arrow in a variety of ways throughout the Autumn and Spring months - is entering its freshman year and will therefore have the chance to tell the origins story of its titular speedster - albeit in the form of a re-telling of sorts, since the accident which transforms Barry Allen into his alter-ego was previously depicted in Episode 9 of Arrow Season Two, "Three Ghosts" - in a manner quite unlike that of Smallville or the various other attempts by DC Entertainment to bring the character to the small-screen.

Now that we know for certain just when these two programmes will bounce back in the UK and where they'll slot into the weekly TV schedules, we're finally able to bring you a fairly comprehensive guide to the shows you'll want to keep your eye out for this Fall as well as their airdates and UK broadcasting networks - where appropriate, anyway, since some are still TBC even at this late stage - the fruits of which can be seen below:

  • MONDAY: Gotham (Starts October 13th - Channel 5); The Big Bang Theory (UK Première Date TBC - E4); My Shakespeare (Sky Arts)
  • TUESDAY: Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Starts October 28th - Channel 4); The Flash (Starts October 28th - Sky1); Bad Education (BBC Three)
  • WEDNESDAY: Trollied (UK Première Date TBC - Sky1)
  • THURSDAY: Star Wars Rebels (Starts October 16th at 5.30pm - Disney XD); Arrow (Starts October 30th - Sky1); Gracepoint (UK Première Date TBC - iTV1)
  • FRIDAY: Gogglebox (Channel 4); Big School (Concludes this Friday, October 10th - BBC One); Constantine (UK Première Date TBC - UK Broadcaster TBC)
  • SATURDAY: Doctor Who (BBC One)
  • SUNDAY: Our Girl (Concludes on October 19th - BBC One); The Newsroom (Starts November 9th (US - UK Première Date TBC) - Sky Atlantic)
The Flash dashes onto Sky1 this October 28th whilst Arrow hits the mark with its triumphant third season soon after on October 30th.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Wii U Release Date Announced

Source: Smash Bros.
Gladiators, take your marks...oops, wrong franchise, but you get the gist.
Nintendo have today announced official UK and US release dates for their imminent third-person brawler video game Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Wii U. Primed - as one would expect in light of its title - to launch exclusively on the publisher's latest home console, the spiritual successor to this month's Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS will sport a number of gameplay modes that weren't featured in its immediate predecessor, meaning that the likes of Smash Run and StreetSmash won't make an appearance this time around.

Credit to the seemingly fledging company, they've demonstrated a fair amount of nerve once again by electing to launch the Wii U edition of the fourth full iteration of the Smash Bros. saga in by far the least crowded - and therefore, somewhat paradoxically, least commercially profitable - month of the latter quarter of the non-fiscal year. Will this admittedly risky approach pay dividends down the line? Perhaps - indeed, Super Mario 3D World didn't suffer too harshly from doing likewise last Winter - but we can't help but wonder whether Nintendo now inherently know that they're no longer shooting for as wide or as mainstream an audience as they once were with their first-party titles, hence why they're not as fussed - or indeed confident - about putting those products up against the Call of Dutys and Assassin's Creeds of the world at this particular moment. Time and the industry's consumers will tell, as ever, yet for now, the previously-quiet marketing campaign for this particular incarnation will need to ramp up considerably if the development team have any hope of matching the critical and commercial success enjoyed by both Melee and Brawl during the first decade of this industrially revolutionary century.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Wii U will explode onto Nintendo Wii U consoles via UK video games retailers on December 5th, with its US launch following swiftly on December 6th.

New Derek 2015 Special Production Details Confirmed

Source: Patheos
Will Life on the Road force the last surviving Noakes and his nursing home pals to take an unscheduled leave of absence?
Executive producer Ricky Gervais has today revealed further details on the production of a new episode of Channel 4's hit comedy-drama Derek. As the writer of The Office, Extras and Cemetery Junction recently outlined in one of his personal blog posts, the series will not return for a full third season, but will instead make a comeback in the form of a one-off special which - at least if the instalments that brought the likes of Extras and Life's Too Short are any indication - strives to resolve any plot threads left hanging in Season Two whilst simultaneously envisioning a meaningful climax to the show's various compelling character arcs.

News of Gervais' return to the big-screen with Life on the Road, a fully-fledged spin-off from The Office focused exclusively on chronicling the exploits of the near-hopeless musical entrepreneur David Brent, justifiably prompted followers of all things Derek Noakes to doubt the likelihood of their next televised fix of the character arriving in the foreseeable future. Ever the master of catching his fandom off-guard, however, its lead star and solitary scribe went out on a much-appreciated limb earlier today on a certain social networking domain by posting the following tweet:
Aside from the man's somewhat hilarious time management issues, we're thrilled to hear that production on the 2015 special - a Winter 2014 broadcast seems out of the question given the extensive time required for the editing team to hone the final cut - will gain traction as early as next month, particularly since this suggests that Gervais has already finished writing his final Derek script or is putting the finishing touches to it as we speak (well, as we speak - presumably at this point you're just reading, lest you've perfected the art of psychic manipulation...). What's especially intriguing on this front is Channel 4's decision to keep their lips sealed regarding perhaps their most popular standalone production in years, although we doubt there's foul play at work here; if anything, the channel probably simply want to focus their viewership's attention on their sure-to-be-packed festive schedule rather than unwrapping the treats they've got in store for us in the New Year. All the same, keep it locked at On-Screen for more details on Derek, Life on the Road and even the dormant-yet-not-wholly-improbable potential for the Rickster to reprise his Muppets Most Wanted role as Dominic Badguy (worry not, dear reader - 'Badguy' is French for 'good guy'!)...

Derek will conclude its critically acclaimed run on Channel 4 with a heart-warming Special in Spring 2015.

First Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Follow-Up Production Details Revealed

Source: HD Wallpapers
If the man who plays the legend is to be believed, the game will soon be afoot once again.
Lead star Robert Downey Jr. has today provided an update on the current status of the pre-production of Warner Bros.' long-rumoured sequel to their 2011 detective blockbuster Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Starring Downey Jr. as the eponymous Great Detective alongside Jude Law (whose rendition of Doctor Watson all but eclipses each and every one of his predecessors in our eyes), Jared Harris and - how could we possibly forget? - QI's Stephen Fry, the aforementioned follow-up to Guy Ritchie's 2009 series opener Sherlock Holmes served as a loose adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's near-iconic short story "The Final Problem" and, we might add, did a cracking job in the process, even if the central narrative itself did pale somewhat in comparison to Stephen Thompson's take on the tale in the enviably accomplished 2012 Sherlock episode known only as "The Reichenbach Fall".

In light of Downey Jr.'s prolonged reputation for breaking the rules - in more ways than one - it shouldn't come as any major shock when we reveal that the Iron Man and The Judge star didn't wait for approval from Warner or Ritchie - who has already stated his intent to return to the director's chair on multiple occasions - to pull back the metaphorical veil on what was previously a project that its leading members wanted to remain shrouded in secrecy. Quizzed on Reddit about the possibility of a third instalment, the American thespian gave a remarkably unambiguous response: "Yes, we have a [third Sherlock Holmes film] in development. We want it to be the best in the series, so that's a pretty tall order." Indeed it is, Mr. Holmes, and just as importantly, the latter sentiment would explain precisely why we've heard so little regarding the project's progress and/or the Conan Doyle text(s) it will take inspiration from up until now. Matching the original Holmes - a film which we would have awarded a wholly earned 5* score to had On-Screen been around at the time of its release - will, of course, represent no mean feat, yet given that A Game of Shadows fell prey to the troublesome pitfalls of tonal inconsistency - one minute its scribes seemed to ape the first flick, the next they were going for something all the more sombre - and the needless prioritization of quasi-romantic set-pieces and clunky exposition within a blockbuster franchise that made a name for itself based on its effortless balancing of relentless action with earnest comedy, rivalling or even besting the second entry shouldn't be as much of a tall ask. Naturally, we'll await the motion picture in question with avid anticipation and will endeavour to keep our mighty readership up-to-date with all of the latest developments as and when they manifest themselves online!

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is available to purchase on DVD and Blu-Ray now. The BBC's beloved adaptation of Conan Doyle's works, meanwhile - that's Sherlock to you and I - will return with a one-off special in Winter 2015 before its fourth season is broadcast on BBC One in Spring 2016.

New The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Promotional Poster Released

Source: Facebook
After facing spiders and goblins aplenty, one would think that Middle-Earth would give Bilbo a break. Apparently not...
Warner Bros. Pictures have today released a new promotional poster for their upcoming fantasy blockbuster The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. The final instalment in Peter Jackson's trilogy of adaptations - don't get us started on why the director felt the need to drag out proceedings for this long - will chronicle Bilbo Baggins and the Company of Dwarves' fateful mission to unite four disparate armadas against the seemingly omnipotent might of Sauron's resurrected forces.

No-one ever claimed that the conflict in question would prove to be simple to resolve, yet for the franchise's titular protagonist (played valiantly by Sherlock's Martin Freeman), it looks as if the weight of the impending war will soon take its toll as the finale's sure-to-be-bloated running time progresses. Of course, that's not to say that Mr. Baggins hasn't faced his fair share of near-insurmountable adversaries over the course of both An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug - indeed, having gone head-to-head with Smaug the Maleficent himself in the concluding sequences of the latter piece, it's not outside the realms of possibility that a one-on-thousands confrontation with hordes of CGI-powered Orcs, goblins and Elves (oh my!) might well seem like a walk in the park by comparison. Jackson teased earlier this year that we could expect to see a theatrical trailer for Battle launch later this month; if it wasn't already overt, then, readers would be well advised to keep a close eye on On-Screen in the days ahead...

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies unveils its banners and marches into UK cinemas nationwide on December 12th.

Atlantis Season Two Première Date Announced

Source: Zap 2 It
And to immediately answer your question, we're not quite sure why a second season was commissioned either...
The BBC have today officially confirmed a global première date for the opening episode of the second season of their kid-orientated fantasy drama Atlantis. A spiritual successor to the immensely superior Merlin, the programme adapts Ancient Greek myths such as those of the fabled Minotaur and Hercules in a characteristically loose manner which allows its writing team to throw in as much in the way of slapstick comedy and cringe-worthy one-liners as humanly possible (and more besides).

If our disdain for the show in question hasn't been fully conveyed by this point, then to put it bluntly, Atlantis' sustained presence on BBC One is - to us, anyway - nothing short of incomprehensible, especially in light of the curiously persistent ambiguity surrounding the fates of esteemed members of BBC Three's accomplished drama roster such as In the Flesh and Being Human (surely a continuation of the latter isn't out of the question given the extent to which the Season Five DVD box-set's post-credits sequence left the series' wider narrative unresolved?). That the first full trailer for Season Two is all but guaranteed to be attached to one or more of the final instalments of Doctor Who's latest series - which culminates just a week before the part-nautical, part-nauseating adventures re-ensue - speaks wonders for the lack of faith the channel's execs seem to have in their latest multi-year project (and rightly so, we might add, as if it would make any great difference at this juncture) and, worse still, the season's present placement in the Beeb's schedule means that we'll even have to entertain perhaps the year's least compelling TV contribution during the festive period - quite frankly, we'd rather stuff countless mince pies between our lips than sit through another forty-five minutes of this mediocre, if not outright patronising, fanfare.

Atlantis will float back onto our television sets for its action-packed second season this November 15th on BBC One.

UPDATE (05-10-14, 3.15am) - On top of revealing the airdate listed above, the BBC have moreover released the first not-so-tantalisingly brief teaser trail for Season Two. Those interested in such previews can witness the video in all of its 'glory' (ahem) below.

Second The Newsroom Season Three TV Trailer Released

Source: Screen Rant
For Will McAvoy, Mackenzie McKale and the rest of the News Night team, it's the final countdown.
HBO have this week released a second TV trailer for the rapidly approaching third season of their divisive journalistic drama The Newsroom. Helmed by Aaron Sorkin, the series will commence its final run next month with a 6-part story arc centring on a potentially globally affective news story, the ramifications of which could very well mean a premature end to News Night 2.0 should the relevant information find itself leaked to the public at precisely the wrong time in precisely the wrong place.

After last month's teaser trail revealed positively nothing about Season Three, save for the supposed imminent resignation of resident newsreader and executive producer McAvoy (played masterfully by Looper and Dumb and Dumber's Jeff Daniels), it's only natural that Sorkin's marketing team would be enthusiastic about the prospect of unveiling genuine footage from the so-called Final Episodes of one of the most controversial (at least in its initial stages - the heat has died down somewhat since, as has the hype which once surrounded the project) Home Box Office productions in recent memory. We'll never cease to recommend that anyone with even a passing interest in intelligent televisual productions sits down and gives Season One a try in order to virtually guarantee their continued loyalty to the programme, nor would we advise them to skip out on what looks to be another simultaneously morally empowered and hilarious (Don and Sloan's supposed first date already looks set to be a real winner) string of interconnected dramas, since whilst some might rightly argue that the now-surprisingly slim remainder of the viewership's loyalty would inevitably be in vain, in reality, only the good die young and only the great bite the bullet at such an untimely age as this maligned-but-unequivocally-audacious small-screen endeavour.

The Newsroom will return for six heart-wrenchingly climactic instalments - collectively titled The Newsroom: The Final Episodes, from what we've heard and seen to date - on HBO this November 9th. A UK broadcast should ideally follow suit over on Sky Atlantic later next month - as ever, be sure to keep it On-Screen to learn more on the subject as and when the news lands.

Gone Girl Review

Source: Scannain
At times capable of Oscar-worthy sequences, at others genuinely frustrating, this one's an essential watch for fans of accomplished mainstream cinema nevertheless.
We may well have just stumbled upon the new Hannibal Lecter.

That's a bold assertion to be sure, yet mark our words, it'll take just a single viewing of what is simultaneously David Fincher's most intricate and deliciously ambiguous cinematic adaptation of a literary text to date. Coming off the back of a marketing campaign so damn deceptive that its middle name might as well be Loki, Gone Girl flourishes in no small part thanks to the considerable array of undetectable aces it has up its remarkably spacious sleeve. Whether the prized The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo helmer and Gillian Flynn (who, as both the author of the novel of the same name and the screenwriter, deserves credit aplenty for conceiving and successfully translating such an inspired narrative) utilize the near-unparalleled series of game-changing moments afforded to them by the source material in the correct manner and at the correct time, however, is a matter that warrants discussion before the Academy Awards 2015 judging panel inevitably come a'calling at the production team's door.

Let's not lower the tone of the conversation just yet, though, as the list of areas in which this subversive mystery thriller-turned-psychologically unhinged power-play excels seems almost endless. As readers will no doubt have gleaned from the opening statement of this review, at the heart of Fincher's latest is an impossibly complex and therefore infinitely intriguing construct whose motivations and overall character arc are all but guaranteed to be the central talking point for just about any onlooker once the credits roll. Spoiling the identity of the character in question would be nothing short of a crime on our part given the sheer impact that the revelation of their undeniably psychopathic (yet somehow disconcertingly rational) nature had upon this reviewer first time around. Whilst recent entertainment releases such as Doctor Who's "Listen" have struggled immeasurably when it comes to delivering a pivotal rug-pull moment which allows the audience to scrutinize and analyse the piece as a whole in a completely different yet unmistakably enduringly satisfying fashion, Flynn is evidently intent on ensuring that no two viewings of the big-screen rendition of by far her most acclaimed contribution to the literary industry will ever feel the same; indeed, in that respect, she, Fincher and the staggeringly talented cast ensemble have clearly gone above and beyond, resulting in an addition to the ranks of mainstream thrillers that shan't be forgotten in any great hurry.

That said, this is definitely an unashamed mainstream work of cinema, no matter how fiercely its scribe and director might attempt to persuade us otherwise. One would hope that a 150-minute running time would be wholly justified by a motion picture which aims to convey such a dense and emotively layered narrative, yet Gone Girl brings with it some unnecessary baggage - not least a inquisitive but ultimately redundant police officer who can't help but conform to the tropes of the genre and who thus performs no meaningful function other than to deepen and develop the tantalising mystery which powers its opening and second acts - and in doing so falls prey to some pacing difficulties from time to time, either needlessly extending the infrequent sequences which prioritize purgatorial-yet-tonally-misplaced humour over tension or haphazardly rushing a key twist and/or piece of exposition which will prove crucial further down the line to the extent that when its relevance becomes clear, the viewer will most likely spend more time attempting to comprehend precisely what has transpired than they will appreciate the cunning act of misdirection which has occurred before their very eyes.

Were it not for a single, fundamental contributory element in Gone Girl's framework, the latter shortcoming could and would have easily crippled the film to such a degree that even Fincher's characteristically smooth and considered (if at times rather static) directorial work wouldn't have been enough to pull it back from the metaphorical firing line. Long-running fans of How I Met Your Mother might expect Neil Patrick Harris' portrayal of scorned lover Desi Collings (whose role in proceedings we'll stay schtum on simply to allow those planning to catch this to experience it with as little foreknowledge of what's to come as possible) to trump those of his co-stars, but frankly, Harris' admittedly tension-inducing contribution can rightly be perceived as completely minimal when compared and contrasted to Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike's career-defining turns in their respective leading roles. Whereas the former soon-to-be-Batman probably never had anything to worry himself about for the immediate future given his multi-film contract with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment, in being bestowed with the character of Amy Elliot-Dunne, a woman whose sudden disappearance forces Affleck's curiously detached Nick to re-evaluate those decisions which brought him to this point, Pike had everything to play for and more besides, and again, so as not to divulge what those wise enough to seek the film out can expect from her construct, we'll only conclude by confirming that hers is one of the most electrifying and haunting performances we've seen in 2014 (and in this decade so far, for that matter). These two players elevate every single sequence in which they appear to new levels of drama, provoking unrelenting tension on the part of their viewership yet effortlessly charming the socks off of their beholders from the get-go in a manner that's downright enviable.

Such is the traditional structure of the vast majority of critical reviews on the web that readers would be forgiven for assuming that by this late stage in our verdict, we've already covered the greatest asset Fincher and company have to offer here, yet they'd be sorely mistaken. In fact, we've saved the best for last. Remember how Inside Llewyn Davis, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes each toyed with the notion of implementing a circular structure in the somewhat futile (save for Dawn, perhaps) hope of demonstrating the extent to which the audience's understanding of and engagement with the plights of their protagonists could simultaneously broaden their perspective on shots and motifs glimpsed in the opening moments of their respective narratives? Gone Girl accomplishes this immensely rare feat with tangible ease, leaving its competitors in the dust through the profoundly impactful use of its devastating (if occasionally mishandled) twists, its Oscar-deserving leads and its generically transcendent screenplay, all of which serve not so much to illuminate or clarify the purposefully ambiguous representation of one of the most fascinating constructs to have graced our screens this year as to further complicate matters. Not since Mr. Lecter made his iconic début in The Silence of the Lambs have we found ourselves so uncertain, nay, terrified of the next action a singular character might take were we to see their arc progress further after the credits rolled, nor has our inability to do so seemed more liberating from an interpretive standpoint.

Doctor Who Experience Revival Teaser Trailer Released

Source: Wales Online
A mysterious figure from the Twelfth Doctor's distant past seems to be in grave need of the Time Lord's help...
BBC Worldwide have today released a teaser trailer (below) promoting their soon-to-be-reopened Doctor Who Experience. Based over in Cardiff Bay, Wales, this interactive British attraction comprises of two compelling segments - the multi-sensory walk-through Experience which gives the attraction its name, as well as a more museum-esque section featuring memorabilia from the hit science-fiction drama's half century-spanning backlog.

We're most likely preaching to the choir in this instance, but just in case that's not true for the entirety of our readership, we'll reiterate that the primary motivation behind BBC Worldwide's decision to temporarily close both the exhibition and its accompanying narrative-orientated voyage through time and space revolved around the latter of the pair, not least since Steven Moffat and company presumably wanted to renew the walk-through storyline in order to incorporate the Twelfth Doctor rather than his immediate predecessor (for those who missed out first time around, the original standalone adventure centred on Matt Smith's incarnation as he desperately sought the help of a dozen "shoppers" to escape the creatively-named Pandorica 2.0 soon after the events of "The Big Bang" and "A Christmas Carol").

More exciting still for fans than the prospect of encountering Capaldi's incarnation in the flesh (so to speak), though, will be the opportunity to hear and see what became of Lalla Ward's Romana II, a character who appeared alongside Tom Baker's Doctor in numerous 1970s serials before going on to take a leading role in proceedings in Big Finish's acclaimed Gallifrey audio series, and who here claims that she's calling from "the final days of Gallifrey", suggesting that the Time War will continue to have a profound influence on the day-to-day life of everyone's favourite time traveller. Stay tuned for more news regarding the revived Experience storyline and its implications for the show's future as and when we receive it!

The Doctor Who Experience will re-open its doors, boasting an exhilarating mini-episode that's sure to once again be bigger on the inside in the process, on October 24th.

UPDATE (02-10-14, 5.05pm) - In addition to officially confirming the date on which the Experience will re-open (see above), BBC Worldwide have also announced that Joseph Lidster has written the script for the attraction's renewed Twelfth Doctor storyline, while regular helmer Paul Wilmshurst was on directing duties at the time of recording. As if that weren't enough, they've even gone so far as to unveil an official plot précis for said adventure: "Follow the Doctor on a spectacular, interactive adventure through time and space. Beginning in the Gallifrey mission [could this sequence comprise of a Time War flashback, we wonder?] and journeying to the heart of the TARDIS, visitors will have to grapple with a threat that could destroy the universe [count us in!]..."

Five The Twilight Saga Spin-Off Films Announced

Source: Sputnik Reviews
Consider our year well and truly spoiled - Edward and Bella Cullen are back with a bite.
Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment have this week announced the development of a series of short spin-off films based in the world of their critically divisive Twilight franchise. Initially conceived by American novelist Stephenie Meyer, the so-called Twilight Saga hit the big-screen in 2007 with Twilight before bouncing back with the likes of New Moon, Eclipse and most notably a two-part adaptation of Meyer's similarly fandom-splitting final instalment Breaking Dawn.

Quite unlike any of their predecessors, the vignette-esque motion pictures in question won't début in theatrical auditoriums; instead, they'll première on Facebook as part of a collaboration between the social networking website, Lionsgate (the studio which produced each cinematic instalment of The Twilight Saga and therefore retains the rights to the series) and Women In Film under the collective title of The Storytellers: New Voices of The Twilight Saga. The series - as its name suggests - will prioritize aspiring female helmers in a commendable effort to dissolve the curiously persistent notion that the most accomplished directors derive from the other sex, with lead star Kristen Stewart and even Meyer herself currently set to spearhead the panel of judges selected to decide upon just which entrants in the production team's open competition (more details on which can be found here) will receive the chance to take to the director's chair for a project of monolithic proportions.

Thankfully, the metaphorical story doesn't look set to stop there, either. Despite the baffling extent to which The Twilight Saga's fandom has grown in recent years, we're under no illusion about the fact that hordes and hordes of film fanatics would like nothing less than to see each and every copy of the film cast into the furnace and forever dismissed. It seems that Lionsgate may well recognise this, if the following comments from their vice chairman, Michael Burns, are anything to go by: "This [series] is just the beginning - a template, if you will. You can probably guess what's coming next." Odds are that Burns is referring to The Hunger Games here, since that's by far Lionsgate's second most popular brand (indeed, it's well on its way to eclipsing Twilight these days), one which we're sure the studio will want to utilize their advantage as the third and final instalments - Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2 respectively - near ever closer (for better or for worse, once we've experienced Part 1 in a month or so's time, we'll simultaneously have born witness to the fantasy saga's penultimate outing). Keep it locked at On-Screen in the coming days to find out all the latest gossip on what's next for The Twilight Saga, The Hunger Games, Divergent and plenty of Lionsgate's other best-selling franchises....

The Storytellers: New Voices of The Twilight Saga will take a bite out of Facebook news feeds worldwide in 2015.

New LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham Voice Artist Confirmed

Source: DC Entertainment
Cometh the hour, cometh the beloved thespian - we couldn't be more thrilled by this development if we possibly tried!
Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment have today announced the identity of another actor who's lending his voice to TT Games' much-anticipated third-person action-adventure platforming video game LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. As well as marking the third fully-fledged outing in the insanely popular LEGO Batman sub-series, the direct successor to LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (and the spiritual successor to LEGO Marvel Superheroes, another fine-if-flawed outing courtesy of TT) will purportedly propel the franchise to new aesthetic and technical heights by finally taking advantage of next-gen hardware to a greater extent than its ancestors.

Learning just who'll be portraying the Green Arrow vocally mightn't seem like a particularly compelling revelation at first to some, but anyone with even a passing interest in either the televised incarnation of the DC universe and / or this blog will undoubtedly know why our excitement to see Beyond Gotham hit shelves has just been multiplied tenfold. Suffice to say that the man in question has plenty of experience in the ways of the aforementioned superheroic archer and, better yet, will receive the chance to interact with the Flash both on video games consoles and on TV this Autumn. Have you guessed his identity yet, dear reader? If not, then we shan't keep you in suspense any longer. Here's the official announcement tweet in all of its majestic glory:
That's right, folks - Stephen Amell, Arrow's lead star and a soon-to-be guest star in its spin-off The Flash, will voice Green Arrow in Beyond Gotham's main campaign, as well as in any relevant side missions. In short, you're welcome. Keep it locked at On-Screen for all the latest details on this Autumn's hottest AAA video game titles as and when said info arrives (plus verdicts aplenty on the aforementioned products, although those reviews are likely to land towards the end of the year depending on our other commitments - stay tuned, in other words!).

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham commences its launch sequence for a space flight quite unlike any other on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Nintendo WiiU, Nintendo 3DS, PC and Mac consoles everywhere this November 14th (in the UK, at least - it'll land in the States on November 11th).

Gotham UK Première Date Announced

Source: Batman News
Batman returns to Britannia next month! Well, in a manner of speaking...
Channel 5 have just announced a UK broadcast date for the pilot episode of 20th Century Fox's up-and-coming detective drama Gotham. Starring Ben McKenzie, Robin Lord Taylor and Jada Pinkett Smith, the series chronicles the origins of both the Dark Knight's strongest allies and his soon-to-be arch-nemeses like Catwoman and Victor Zsaz, not to mention iconic DC locales such as the Gotham City Police Department and the infamous Arkham Asylum.

British followers of the superhero genre in its various guises would certainly have been forgiven for expecting Sky1 to announce a return date for Arrow and its hugely vaunted spin-off The Flash before their competitors even considered a timeslot and airdate for their respective small-screen projects, yet Channel 5 have evidently beaten them to the punch, confirming that "Pilot" will broadcast on their network just under three weeks after its US première. The relatively minimised delay isn't quite as impressive as Sky Atlantic's successful attempt to air Game of Thrones 'live' at the same time as their Stateside counterparts, but so long as the gothic escapades of Jim Gordon (McKenzie), Bruce Wayne (David Masouz) continue to air over here without fail, it'll probably be a cold day in hell before anyone files a notable complaint...

Gotham will debut on Channel 5 with "Pilot" on Monday, October 13th at 9pm.

Tak3n Teaser Trailer Released

Source: Dark Horizons
Take it away, Comic Book Guy: "Worst. Film Title. Ever."
20th Century Fox have this week unveiled the teaser trailer for their imminent thriller blockbuster (apologies in advance for the linguistic atrocity that awaits you after this parenthetical aside, dear reader) Tak3n. The third and (the Old Gods and the New willing) final instalment in the bafflingly lucrative Taken franchise will - of course - once again star the astoundingly loyal (if nothing else) Liam Neeson as Bryan Miller, or as the fandom who've evidently followed his adventures have come to know the protagonist, the most incompetent father in human history.

For what it's worth, Bryan's twice-unlucky daughter Kim (played by Maggie Grace in Taken, Taken 2 and this needless-yet-sure-to-be-successful series finale) doesn't look set to find herself in the firing line for a third time; that honour instead goes to her mother, Lenny Mills, whose screen-time will surely hit an all-time low if the shots depicting her untimely passing contained within this teaser (below) are any substantial indication. Whilst X-Men: Days of Future Past's Famke Janssen mightn't have been particularly pleased to receive word of her reduced role this time around, if nothing else, said demise - not to mention the presence of Forest "Thank Goodness For The Butler" Whitaker - should at least provide Tak3n (and yes, we're still shuddering at the mere notion of that title) with a sizeable enough dosage of adrenaline to ensure that if the prolonged three-part narrative does "en[d] here" (as the first promotional poster's tagline suggests above), then it'll go out on an almighty high.

Tak3n will bring the thrill of the chase to cinemas worldwide on January 9th, 2015.
