Channel 5 have just announced a UK broadcast date for the pilot episode of 20th Century Fox's up-and-coming detective drama Gotham. Starring Ben McKenzie, Robin Lord Taylor and Jada Pinkett Smith, the series chronicles the origins of both the Dark Knight's strongest allies and his soon-to-be arch-nemeses like Catwoman and Victor Zsaz, not to mention iconic DC locales such as the Gotham City Police Department and the infamous Arkham Asylum.
British followers of the superhero genre in its various guises would certainly have been forgiven for expecting Sky1 to announce a return date for Arrow and its hugely vaunted spin-off The Flash before their competitors even considered a timeslot and airdate for their respective small-screen projects, yet Channel 5 have evidently beaten them to the punch, confirming that "Pilot" will broadcast on their network just under three weeks after its US première. The relatively minimised delay isn't quite as impressive as Sky Atlantic's successful attempt to air Game of Thrones 'live' at the same time as their Stateside counterparts, but so long as the gothic escapades of Jim Gordon (McKenzie), Bruce Wayne (David Masouz) continue to air over here without fail, it'll probably be a cold day in hell before anyone files a notable complaint...
Gotham will debut on Channel 5 with "Pilot" on Monday, October 13th at 9pm.
