Mass Effect 3 Story Details Revealed

With no sign of any proper game-play online yet, we still have a lot to wait for before Mass Effect 3 releases this Christmas. However, what we have got today is the first information on the storyline of the final instalment in the epic science-fiction gaming trilogy, fresh from US magazine GameInformer. The publication has revealed that the anticipated sequel's plot will pick up after the recent downloadable mission Arrival, where protagonist Commander Shephard sent a meteor into a mass relay to block off access to his galaxy by series anatgonists the Reapers. If you're worried because you didn't play and/or have no intention of completing the DLC (like me), don't be, as BioWare have always said that they won't punish fans for not playing side missions, so either you'll be on trial for something else that happened in Mass Effect 2 (or updating the Council on the story so far?) or will play through a comic chronicling the events of Arrival- GameInformer did discover that those who haven't tried the predecessing games will use a comic akin to that found in the PS3 version of ME2 to catch up the plot and make decisions which will affect the finale, so perhaps those who have played both ME1 and 2 will just use a comic to see what happened in the DLC. In the middle of your trial, the Reapers start to invade Earth, prompting a 'tutorial' mission where you escape to the Normandy to rally the alien races of the galaxy to take back the planet. Confirmed as teammates (if they survived!) are Liara, Ashley, Kaiden, Garrus and newbie James Sanders, while Wrex, Mordin, Legion and Captain Anderson are thought to make brief cameos. Depending on your team and choices throughout all three games, the ending to the trilogy will vary (Shephard's survival included) considerably. The Illusive Man is back too, and Cerberus alledgedly want Shephard dead...More on Mass Effect 3 in May, with the game set for release this Winter.
