2013 In Entertainment: Film Preview (Part 2)

The rest of 2013's film offerings covered in full!
We're looking ahead now at what 2013 has to offer for the film industry, and continuing this feature by investigating what the months of June-December hold for movie-goers...
JUNE
MONSTERS' UNIVERSITY- As I mentioned in Part 1, Mike and Sully and the rest of the much-loved band of Pixar animated monsters we fondly recall from Monsters. Inc are back for a new prequel adventure. University features high-school antics and an all new storyline (and 3D!) to boot.
MAN OF STEEL- DC Entertainment have a big challenge on their hands with Man Of Steel. This is their only superhero movie in the entire year, and unlike The Dark Knight Rises being in the same position of 2012, Zack Snyder has to reboot a franchise which has never truly hit its potential. If he gets it right, then the proposed Justice League film may stand more of a chance to get made and battle Avengers Phase 2!
WORLD WAR Z- Delayed from this Christmas to the Summer Of Film, this exciting new horror features Brad Pitt taking on a zombie invasion in an adaptation of Max Brooks' novel.
AFTER EARTH- Little is known about this fantasy drama, but we do know that it's the first team-up of Jaden Smith and his dad Will Smith!
THE END OF THE WORLD- Again, we don't know much save for this marks the first pairing of comedy legends Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill.
JULY
DESPICABLE ME 2- Although a bit of an overlooked gem, Despicable Me was an awesome animated flick that's gone on to have something of a cult following. The sequel, then, marks a great chance for Steve Carrell's new franchise to rise up to full acclaim amongst its kid audience.
GROWN UPS 2- Can Adam Sandler ever not play an Adam Sandler role? Still, Grown Ups (4.5/5) was a nice surprise back in 2010, so fans such as myself will be glad to see the gang back together for another series of comedic antics.
INDEPENDENCE DAY 3D- One of Will Smith's greatest hits gets a re-run on the big screen in 3D.
PHINEAS AND FERB- Meanwhile, one of Disney's best-loved animated TV shows finally comes to cinemas too, as Phineas And Ferb take on their most daring challenge ever in a new form of animation!
THE WOLVERINE- Marvel's second movie of the Summer, The Wolverine is the spiritual successor to 2010's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, continuing where it left off as Logan finds himself alone and devoid of memories in Japan, and sent into a daring plot of love and money in this new country.
THE SMURFS 2- Well...it's a sequel that just about no-one except young kids asked for. Moving on...
AUGUST
R.E.D 2- I thought the original R.E.D was a little bit overhyped in its gung-ho action, yet it's back for a sequel, and I for one do at least look forward to seeing Helen Mirren and Anthony Hopkins share the stage.
PERCY JACKSON & THE SEA OF MONSTERS- One of 2010's most underrated hits, the original Percy Jackson had its flaws but had a tonne of potential for future franchise instalments. If the makers of this sequel can get the tone right this time around, this series could become every bit as popular as the Potter, Twilight and Hunger Games franchises.
SEPTEMBER
THE LITTLE MERMAID 3D- Yep, September is a pretty quiet month bar this classic 3D re-release.
OCTOBER
SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR- October's relatively quiet too, although fans of the controversial comic adaptation Sin City at least get a sequel. Admittedly, the closed nature of the original's ending means this bizarre choice of filmmaking could really go either way!
NOVEMBER
THOR 2- Marvel's third release of the year is a sequel to the 2011 hit origins story for everyone's favourite Nordic hero. Thor was my favourite entry in the build-up to Avengers Assemble, and I cannot wait to see Loki punished for his actions on Earth and the ways in which he takes revenge as a new villain emerges!
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE- The first Hunger Games film seems to have gone down a storm so far with critics, so it's only natural that its team are already hard at work on the sequel. Catching Fire sees Katniss playing a dangerous game of deception as the true rebellion begins to emerge...
DECEMBER
THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN- The concluding instalment of this two-part epic prequel to the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, There And Back Again focuses on Bilbo after his escape from Gollum's cave with the One Ring and his quest to slay the evil dragon Smaug.
WALKING WITH DINOSAURS 3D- Because who doesn't want a 3D version of this CGI BBC documentary? Sure to be absolutely riveting stuff...
NINJA TURTLES- Michael Bay is back on the movie scene with an adaptation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lore. Can this reboot the franchise? We'll see as 2013 comes to a close...
AND THERE'S MORE!
It's important to remember that we'll also get Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and Kick-Ass 2 at undisclosed points in the year too, along with Wreck-It Ralph and more unannounced sequels, prequels, reboots and standalone flicks. On top of that, as we head into 2014 there's Cloudy 2: Revenge Of The Leftovers, LEGO: The Movie, Maleficent, Captain America 2, Robocalypse, Stretch Armstrong, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, another unannounced Marvel movie, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, How To Train Your Dragon 2, Transformers 4 and X-Men: First Class 2 to come for starters, so this film industry really shows no signs of slowing down!
