Who News: Second Doctor Biopic Actor Confirmed

The man who'll play Patrick Troughton in Mark Gatiss' 50th origins show is revealed!
The Radio Times have today announced the name of the actor who will play Patrick Troughton in Mark Gatiss' Doctor Who 50th Anniversary biopic An Adventure In Space And Time. It's Reece Shearsmith, a 40-year old British star who's just three years younger than Troughton was when he took up the role in 1966.

With this confirmation, the Radio Times have exclusively revealed that the upcoming biopic will span the entirety of the William Hartnell production era as rumoured, with indications that Hartnell's annoyance at the show moving on without him rather than ending will be dealt with. Shearsmith has previously starred in TV productions such as The League Of Gentleman and Psycho, and Gatiss has had him in mine for the twelve years he's been trying to get this adventure commissioned, so it seems he's the perfect choice for the job! Of course, with ideas of The Eleven Doctors being the 50th Anniversary Special now circulating, it's inevitable that fans will start to wonder if Shearsmith could play the Second Doctor himself come Steven Moffat's blockbuster special episode- we'll likely find out in April when it begins filming...

Here's the cast list as we have it confirmed from the BBC and Radio Times so far:
William Hartnell- DAVID BRADLEY
Sydney Newman- BRIAN COX
Verity Lambert- JESSICA RAINE
Waris Hussein- SACHA DHAWAN
Heather Hartnell- LESLEY MANVILLE
Patrick Troughton- REECE SHEARSMITH
William Russell- JAMIE GLOVER
Jacqueline Hill- JEMMA POWELL
Carole Anne Ford- CLAUDIA GRANT
Harry- WILLIAM RUSSELL

An Adventure In Space And Time will broadcast on BBC2 as part of the BBC's blockbuster 50th Anniversary celebrations in November.
