Bodycount Review (5/10)
After years of letting major flaws slip in favour of a solid FPS formula, I'm finally drawing the line with Bodycount: no longer can a shooter fall back on the strengths of the Call of Duty franchise and expect its lack of innovation to be compensated by its traditionally wacky setpieces. Codemasters appear to have dished out this one as an after-thought for their 2011 line up, as F1 2011 is a much more well-rounded release with loads of interesting new features. Bodycount involves your character running through a wealth of favelas, jungles and cityscapes...just like in Black Ops and Modern Warfare. Funny, that. The plot makes no more sense than COD, even stepping below the comprehension mark of its inspiration, a pretty unexpected feat by any game's standards given how little sense COD stories usually make in their initial playthrough. If you rent this one out for the weekend, you'll probably find it was worth your fiver- the shooting mechanics work well, there are some cool bonus points for inventive kills, and the online mode is robust enough to last for a while- but I'd wager Bodycount is worth little more than time, and little more than those two days of your time. And that's if you'd rather play an average shooter than Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3. Would you rather that? Thought not.
