Merlin: The Darkest Hour Part One Preview

As one BBC fantasy drama ends this evening, so too does a new series of another popular show return. Yep, Merlin is back for a fourth run of episodes, starting off with a two-parter opened this week by The Darkest Hour Part One. What can you expect in the series opener?

• The episode takes place a year after the events of The Coming of Arthur- Uther is still out of action and Arthur has taken on a larger role in running the kingdom with the help of the Knights of the Round Table.
• But Morgana is back to cause havoc, opening the Veil Between Worlds and bringing a demonic dragon, Callaeich, into our world.
• The Knights take to the outskirts of Camelot to stop Callaeich, but realise it's going to take more than just a few swords to stop the dragon, Morgana and the recooperating Morgause!
• Nathaniel Parker joins the regular cast this week as Arthur's demanding uncle Agravaine.
• Merlin realises that if Callaeich is to be stopped, an unimaginable sacrifice must be made, one that will shake Camelot to its very core...

Merlin returns tonight at 7.50pm on BBC One.
