The Brilliant Book of Doctor Who 2012 is out this week, promising to be a hugely comprehensive guide to the sixth season of Who. Den of Geek has revealed that one article featured in the hardback is a big interview with showrunner Steven Moffat, where the executive producer chats about this year's run, but more importantly the future of the programme. I'll post more coverage of the Brilliant Book later this week...
ON THE LATE RETURN FOR WHO IN 2012- Doctor Who Magazine has recently revealed that Who will return next Autumn rather than in the springtime, but why? "The truth behind the delay next year is: why are we killing ourselves and risking comprimising the show, in order to go out in the middle of Summer? I'm sick of it. I'm sick of standing in the blazing sunshine, with a barbecue fork in my hand, knowing that Who will be on any minute. Six'o'clock on a sunny Saturday is the middle of the afternoon, whereas six'o'clock on a Winter or Autumn Saturday is dark and exciting."
ON DOCTOR WHO IN THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR- Doctor Who reaches its fiftieth anniversary in 2013, so what can we expect after the slightly reduced episode count in 2012 (it's likely Season Seven will be an Autumn 2012/Spring 2013 split, but might we perhaps get some more specials or a whole second series in 2013 too?)? "It'll be epic, huge, massive, indulgent...all your treats at once. I guarantee you it's going to be the best year ever to be a Doctor Who fan. We're going to be in production longer than ever, just to do everything we intend to do."
Steven also revealed that Amy and Rory won't feature as full companions in this year's Christmas Special (although the production team have filmed at their home, so expect cameos from them), but they will return next year at various points in the season. Expect much more coverage of The Brilliant Book later this week!
