Hot off the success of
Thor in the box office earlier this Summer, Walt Disney Pictures (the new owners of
Marvel)
have revealed their intent to produce a sequel for the hammer-wielding hero, giving us a release date and an update on its director. We now know for certain that Kenneth Brannagh won't be directing
Thor 2, as he has other commitments to new projects, however it is suspected that he will still play a role in the production of the feature. Chris Hemsworth should definitely be back as Thor, though, after meeting critical acclaim for his portrayal in the first movie (which released May 3rd). Thor will return first in
The Avengers on May 4th, 2012 then in the currently titled sequel
Thor 2 on July 26th, 2013, with the latter this time being distributed by Walt Disney Pictures.
