Torchwood: The Lost Files Review (5/5)

Just a few days before the new series, Miracle Day, began airing on BBC One (tonight at 9pm!), BBC Radio Four premiered three new Torchwood radio dramas featuring John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper and returning despite his character's death Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones. Here's my thoughts on each individual instalment in The Lost Files
  • THE DEVIL AND MISS CARREW (4/5)- A fairly by-the-books Torchwood romp, Devil sees the team investigate strange goings on at a local elderly home. There's certainly nothing on offer here we haven't seen in the past, but it was nice to see Kai Owen back as Rhys.
  • SUBMISSION (4/5)- Also quite predictable- here, the gang head deep into the Earth, forming an unlikely alliance with UNIT (no mention of Martha, though...). Quite gothic and creepy at times, and Gareth David-Lloyd gets some good material to play with.
  • THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD (5/5)- By far the standout best of the dramas, while the other two stories take place between Children of Earth, this...well, it's hard to explain, but sufficed to say the shock factor of what happens here between Jack and Ianto shouldn't be spoilt. This sets up brilliantly for Miracle Day, and is actually the best radio drama I've ever heard (no, really).
Torchwood: The Lost Files are available to listen to on iPlayer now (I advise you seek out as The House of the Dead as soon as possible!) or alternatively will be released on CD on September 8th.
