Who News: New Series 7 Details; 50th CD Revealed

The 50th Anniversary year of Who continues with more on what's to come on TV and elsewhere...
Anyone who's picked up the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine will notice the monthly publication is sporting a dazzling new look. The new edition features a special feature named Year Of The Doctor- Coming In 2013... which looks ahead to what we can expect from this big 50th Anniversary year, outlining just a few of the big releases. Here's a round-up on all the latest Who 50th news...

  • SPRING ADVENTURES- Saul Metzein, director of the 2012 episodes Dinosaurs On A Spaceship, A Town Called Mercy and The Snowmen and a couple more 2013 adventures, has been chatting with DWM on what to expect in the Spring anniversary season (Series Seven Part Two). "Mark Gatiss' [Episode 6] is such a great script," he says, "It's very tight, and has its own particular peculiarities. Its own unique flavour. Its very funny. Terribly creepy. I like its odd structure. And [Steven Moffat's] season finale? That has genuinely scary monsters. Wait and see!" Metzein remains coy on whether we'll see him back for the 2014 run, but one thing's for sure, his legacy on the show will be big after his two anniversary efforts!
  • THE BIG CELEBRATION- Predictably, the BBC and their marketing team aren't giving much away about exactly what to expect from the 50th Anniversary in November. What we do know is that there'll be a feature-length special episode on the big day (November 23rd) courtersy of Steven Moffat, Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman and a host of big guest stars that are still to be revealed. On top of that, there's a docudrama on BBC2 that month from Mark Gatiss about the show's creation, An Adventure In Time And Space. Expect a new Christmas Special adventure too, so that's eleven big Doctor Who television outings already announced to make this year a major hit!
  • DOCTORS AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL- Big Finish have confirmed that there'll be a classic CD audio drama called Light At The End released near the big anniversary. It'll feature Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann in a big multi-Doctor adventure, so even if the Moff isn't planning a big nostalgia-fest (and he needn't- the 50th Special should look to the future!), we'll get a classic team-up all the same...
  • READ ALL ABOUT IT- BBC Books have confirmed that the New Series Adventures series of hardback books will return for a new season of three adventures in the Spring. Dalek Generation (by Nicholas Pegg), Plague Of The Cybermen (Justin Richards) and Shroud Of Sorrow (a JFK assassination adventure by Tommy Donbavand) will hit stores in hardback form this April. The managers of the book brand are promising big new releases this Autumn and Winter, too, to celebrate the anniversary, so look out for those!
  • Expect much more news on 50th Anniversary releases and plans in the next month or so...
Doctor Who returns to BBC1 and BBC1 HD this April for its anniversary season starring Matt Smith as the Doctor and Jenna-Louise Coleman as Clara.
