CD Projekt confirm the first proper next-generation game is coming!
GameInformer have today revealed their March issue magazine cover, and with it has come the announcement from developer CD Project that video game threequel The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is currently in development for release in the future. This latest instalment in the hit RPG fantasy franchise follows in the wake of 2012's brilliant remake of The Witcher 2: Extended Edition on Xbox 360 and PC, but takes things to a new world that's even bigger than The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Thankfully, CD Projekt promise that despite the rise in scale, the open and flexible nature of the campaign's narrative will remain intact. Protagonist Geralt is now on the trail of his lost love Triss, and he must cross vast landscapes and battlefields in order to rekindle their relationship and put an end to the ongoing conflicts of the realms once and for all. It's a thrilling prospect to be sure, especially in the knowledge that The Witcher 2 was such a fantastic game despite its functional quirks.
And the best news? This entry will ship on both PC and "high-end consoles" available in its release window, which given that no consoles from Sony or Microsoft are explicitly named, pretty much confirms that the next-generation of video games consoles will arrive in 2013! Be prepared, because with this news reveal, it seems likely we'll get hardware announcements for both Xbox and PlayStation in the near future...
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set for release on Xbox 720, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2014.
