Sledgehammer Call of Duty Cancelled

Sledgehammer Games were, in 2009, set to make the first third-person action/adventure Call of Duty game. It seemed safe to assume that a fair amount of work must have gone into it these past two years, but when Infinity Ward ran into big legal troubles, Activision decided it was best that Sledgehammer came to work on this year's instalment of COD, Modern Warfare 3, to ensure the annual release schedule would be maintained. Many games critics figured that this would delay Sledgehammer's incarnation to a 2013 release, but it has been revealed this week that their original project has been officially cancelled! Speaking to GamesRadar on the matter, Vice President Michael Conroy had this to say: "We came on board to make a third-person action adventure game, in the Call of Duty franchise, and we were working on it for about six months. [However, we were lured away] by the opportunity to work on the biggest thing in the industry with Infinity Ward." So, there you have it: whatever incarnation of COD reaches our shores in 2012, it won't be Sledgehammer's child, which makes it more likely we'll be getting something from Treyarch as we did in 2010- Black Ops 2, perhaps...? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 ships November 8th on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS and PC.
