August 2012: Best Release

Why High Moon Studios' licensed sequel is a gaming masterclass and August's best release!
I won't lie to you, dear readers: August was not the greatest month of entertainment in 2012 by quite a long way. Much as new releases like The Bourne Legacy and Ted tried to stand out from the crowd, there was little in the way of groundbreaking new content coming our way over the course of the four weeks of the month. There was, however, one shining star of August that did what other releases could not, went further than others dared. That release was...Transformers: Fall Of Cybertron. Against all the odds, High Moon set a new bar for licensed gaming almost as high as the Arkham Asylum duo in terms of sheer quality. Sure, the multiplayer component was a bit lacking, and the ending predictable, but that could not stop this ambitious sequel from being a true masterpiece in this writer's eyes. Fall Of Cybertron isn't the perfect game, yet it's the best Transformers game we've seen, and no doubt one of the best single-player experiences of 2012. Here's to more adventures, High Moon!
