The Future Continues in 2013...Paramount Pictures have this week unveiled the first full plot synopsis for Star Trek Into Darkness. The sequel to 2009's ace Star Trek film reboot, this second instalment takes place a number of years after the events of its predecessor, introducing a new conflict and a new alien menace for the SS Enterprise to tackle in the aftermath of its first battle.
Here's the synopsis: "When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organisation has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes, are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew."
It sounds like a ripping yarn, one that's got the potential to be among the greatest follow-ups and overall movies we see next year. Star Trek Into Darkness vworps into cinemas everywhere on May 17th, 2013.
