X-Men: Days Of Future Past Gets Series Returnees

The sequel to 2011's hit prequel features familiar faces...
Pre-production on X-Men: Days Of Future Past has now commenced in full flow, with director and executive producer Bryan Singer today confirming the first casting details for the new flick. Set after the events of 2011's hit superhero prequel First Class, this much anticipated follow-up will focus on a young Magneto's tampering with the timelines of the planet Earth and the Sentinel takeover he initiates in doing so. Singer announced at first the rather obvious: James McAvoy will reprise his role as Professor Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Erik Lenshirr (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique and Nicholas Hoult as Beast. The rather more surprising additions, then? Singer also revealed that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will return to the franchise to reprise their roles as the older versions of Professor X and Magneto respectively. Stewart and McKellen both appeared in the main X-Men film trilogy to great acclaim, with the former also returning for a brief cameo in the Origins spin-off. What with the crossing of timelines, you have to wonder if Hugh Jackman or any of the surviving X-Men from The Last Stand will be involved, although whether the series continuity could take such an uprising remains to be seen! X-Men: Days Of Future Past launches on July 18th, 2014 (and considering The Hobbit: There And Back Again hits the same day, we'll be seeing a lot of McKellen in that period!).
