Marvel News: Planet Hulk Set For Phase 3?

Could the Hulk's finest comic-book hour come to the big screen as part of the next series of Avengers movies?
In terms of big announcements, Marvel film fans have rarely had it better than it's been these past few months, with Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige having announced new Avengers Phase Two and Phase Three projects left, right and centre ever since the big ComicCon 2012 Phase Two reveal last Summer.

Well, now it turns out that may be even more exciting unannounced elements on the horizon. Reliable entertainment news source The Latino Review has today reported that a live-action big screen adaptation of the hit Hulk standalone outing Planet Hulk may be in development for release as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's third phase of Avengers solo and ensemble movies. Currently, we've got Ant-Man and Doctor Strange confirmed as part of the third line-up, but it's this Hulk solo adventure that could really make a difference. The same report is claiming that The Avengers 2 will culminate with the Hulk dispatched by the Illuminati (a compilation of Marvel heroes working to protect the Earth from supernatural threats) into space after being deemed too dangerous for the world to handle. The big rumour? After Planet Hulk, the bulk of The Avengers 3 will then be a loose adaptation of World War Hulk, with the Incredible Hulk reigning down the alien army he conquers in his travels into outer space to Earth to lead an invasion against those 'heroes' who exiled him.

If this is the rough route that Kevin Feige and Joss Whedon are looking to map out, then it'll certainly be a thrilling turn of events for Hulk fans. Feige's said in the past that Planet Hulk in particular would be a fantastic story for adaptation, so perhaps that's exactly what we'll get into 2016 to lead into The Avengers 3 in 2017? Exciting times ahead...

The Avengers 2 is set for release in cinemas worldwide on April 28th, 2015.
