Michael Bay Talks Transformers 4 Plot, Characters

The acclaimed CGI director chats what we can expect from the new Transformers movie.
Believe it or not, we're just over a year away now from a brand new Transformers movie (isn't it bizarre talking about 2014 in that context?). Director Michael Bay has made just a few announcements to Forbes Magazine on the matter so far such as Mark Wahlberg's casting as the new series protagonist, yet today we've recieved a couple of enticing pieces of new info on the production. Here's our guide to just what the explosion-fest heavy director had to say about Transformers 4 right now...

  • ON THE PREMISE: "We're going to start off smaller. There's a brand new cast. To freshen the franchise we've redesigned everything from top to bottom. The history of the first three movies is still there, we start four years later and there's a reason why we're meeting a new cast."
  • ON THE IDEA OF TRANSFORMERS 4 AS A REBOOT: "No, that's wrong. We keep the Transformers the way they were, it's just four years later. There's a reason the Transformers are redesigned. We're trying to broaden the franchise and give it more places to go."
Those last sentiments on 'broadening the franchise' from Bay are certainly intriguing, as much as we loved Transformers: Dark Of The Moon (4.5/5) here at On-Screen, there was definitely a lingering sense that any further 'more of the same' instalments wouldn't go down nearly as well with viewers.

Transformers 4 is set for release in cinemas worldwide on June 27th, 2014.
