Dominion is another dark instalment in the closing days of the
Smallville saga, but while it's nice to see Callum Blue back as Zod some continuity issues hamper the enjoyment of the third-to-last ever episode (boy, is it weird saying that...). First and foremost one canon problem appears- who is Blue playing, the General Zod phantom from Series Six or the Series Nine regular who was a younger clone? We do find out, and as usual I won't spoil the answer, but even if I did it will probably make as little sense as it did in my viewing, an annoying trait which made him seem a less certain villain even if the resolution of his storyline was a neat tie-in to the classic movies. On top of that, the placement of where Clark and Oliver end up when they first enter a familiar portal is not covered fully either, and the aforementioned conclusion of the Zod plot arc doesn't make things any clearer. Those issues aside, Justin Hartley did some great work as a director here, although the colours and tones bear a little too much similarity to those found recently in the alternate reality world. Overall, while once again there's little progression towards Clark becoming the Man Of Steel (something I hope will be rectified in the last two episodes),
Dominion does feature a strong confrontation, it just gets some plot threads wrong in its script which hold it back from being an all time classic.
