The series changes big-time for its third full outing! Yesterday, following a leak, Ubisoft Montreal revealed the boxart for Assassin's Creed III, confirming that the sequel will take place during the period of the American Revolution (1753-1783) and that the Assassin involved would be of a Native American heritage. Now, we've got the first few screenshots from the game (after the bullet points), and a heap of details on it via NeoGAF and Game Informer:
- The new Assassin is called Connor, and comes from a parentage of an English father and a Native American mother. No doubt that'll cause friction later when the two nationality groups come into conflict over American freedom.
- Experiencing Connor's earlier years as part of the Mohawk tribes, you'll watch in horror as your village is burnt down along with most of your friends, and dedicate your life to justice and the Creed.
- New platforming mechanics will see you climbing around in forests and on cliffs for starters.
- Connor has thousands of all-new animations, and this time the engine can support battles with literally thousands of men involved!
- George Washington and Benjamin Franklin are involved to a fair extent.
- The modern-day segments of the game will take place in New York (the old version of which forms a central locale for your Revolutionary war in the 18th century), where Desmond apparently found himself waking up in a part of at Revelations' climax.
- The Brotherhood system will return in some form...no news on what yet, though.
- Using the newly unveiled tomahawk and knife weapons, you'll be able to constantly chain together attacks and kills in battle. Apparently, Ubisoft Montreal want to make sure you're near-constantly on the move in Assassin's Creed III, in and out of the fighting.
- This one has had the longest development cycle since the original Creed- it's been in development ever since Assassin's Creed II's release in 2008, so that's nearly five years now. Here's hoping Montreal's work does 'em proud.
