Film Reviews- A Refresher

My 'Classics' feature has already shown that there's going to be a few changes to film reviews here on the blog in 2011. Basically, if I have already seen a film once and am watching it the second (or third, or...etc) time round, there'll be an R in front of the score to represent the word retrospective. Other than that, not much is going to be any different this year, but here's a refresher of the scoring system:
0-1.5/5- Not worth seeing, films of this calibre lack both style and substance, and will leave you with a sour taste in your mouth of a wasted two hours.
2-2.5/5- Average to say the last, any flicks unfortunate enough to receive these ratings drag on for way too long and 'boast' a wealth of tiresome performances from the cast.
3-3.5/5- Getting better, these don't live up to their full potential but definitely have a few strengths that make them well worth a watch.
4-4.5/5- These are the good stuff: each movie that gets one of these scores is definitely as good as film-goers wanted it to be. If there's a 4.5 attached to a review, then just one flaw holds it back from movie master-class, but an essential watch nonetheless.
5/5- As close to film perfection as you'll get, these hits will inspire, shock and thrill you in equal measure on the first watch, though do bear in mind that sometimes that's my impression from the original viewing, and it may not hold up over time or out of the cinema. Tron: Legacy and Deathly Hallows: Part One both attained this accolade in 2010, so the bar will be set very high in the next 12 months!
