New Mass Effect 3 WiiU Details Revealed

Discover more about the next-generation version of BioWare's sci-fi saga...
It's certainly weird to think that with the release of the Nintendo WiiU later this year, we'll essentially be moving into what we consider to be the next generation of video games consoles. Already, titles like Batman: Arkham City, Rayman Legends, Assassin's Creed III and LEGO City Undercover have been confirmed to ship with the new hardware, but by far one of the most exciting launch line-up additions is that of Mass Effect 3. We know from playing the 360/PS3 versions of the game earlier this year that it's a fantastic finale to the sci-fi trilogy from BioWare, and one which we gave a stellar 10/10 rating here at On-Screen, yet it will be interesting to see how the development and writing teams deal with only porting the third entry in the series over to WiiU without prior choices made being able to affect the experience. Could we perhaps get an anime comic as we did with the solo PS3 version of Mass Effect 2? That remains to be seen, but today EA have confirmed new details on their latest update. Mass Effect 3's WiiU edition will ship with all of the downloadable content provided for the original game's fanbase, which means all of the following packs will form a part of the final product:
  • FROM ASHES- A single-player add on which allowed the Promethean character of Javek to enter Shepherd's team.
  • RESURGENCE PACK- The game's first new multiplayer map pack a la Call Of Duty.
  • REBELLION PACK- Another map pack with plenty more locations for players to try out on the WiiU's online network.
  • EXTENDED CUT- The infamous DLC installed to qualm the bad press and responses to the original ending of Mass Effect 3. I felt this add-on was a little unnecessary, but if this is your first time experiencing the game then I certainly doubt you'll complain at what's now there.
  • EARTH PACK- And yet another map pack DLC, this time focusing on locales like London and Vancouver back on our home planet.
  • LEVIATHAN- Looking at a derelict Reaper cast out from its ranks when it went rogue, Leviathan will see Shepherd and his team trying to recruit the Reaper for their cause, which could have a monumental impact on the way that players' stories are affected.
There may even be yet more downloadable content to come, but for now it's a solid addition to the already hefty 20-hour game that will guarantee that WiiU owners are getting lots of bang for their buck. The Nintendo WiiU ships this Winter alongside the new version of Mass Effect 3.
