Microsoft have today announced the development of downloadable content based on the BBC's beloved science-fiction drama Doctor Who for use in Mojang's similarly well-received open-world video game Minecraft. Developed in collaboration with BBC Worldwide, the DLC packs will not only feature the Twelfth Doctor (played by Peter Capaldi, though don't go expecting a voice-over) and his long-running adversaries the Daleks, but also a host of other familiar faces from the programme's past including classic Doctors and persistent extraterrestrial menaces like (we'd imagine, anyway) the Cybermen.
Proceedings will kick off with a hugely appealing Season Eight-inspired pack (an official screenshot of which can be found below) featuring six different Doctors and Skaro's most nefarious inhabitants, all of whom will be immortalised in glorious block-rendered form, while future DLC expansions will be released as Season Eight progresses over the course of the next eleven weeks. As ever, keep it locked at On-Screen for more details on what should prove to be an out-of-this-world crossover, as well as Mojang's plans for future downloadable expansions to the increasingly critically acclaimed world of Minecraft.
The first wave of Doctor Who-themed Minecraft DLC will retail for £1.99 exclusively on Xbox 360 (via the UK Xbox Games Store) this September.
