Paramount Pictures have today announced the production of a follow-up to their upcoming fantasy action film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Starring Megan Fox and directed by Jonathan Liesbsman, the semi-anticipated reboot was released late last week in the United States and since then has apparently acquired over $65 million of domestic profits alone.
That the not-so-acclaimed blockbuster (which currently holds a Metacritic average score of just 33%) beat Guardians of the Galaxy's Stateside profits for the weekend of August 9th-10th does not guarantee it'll achieve similar commercial feats when it arrives in the UK this Autumn, though, so the studio could quite easily be argued as counting their proverbial chickens (or remarkably oversized aquatic creatures, as the case may be) before they come to roost in this instance. Nevertheless, with Michael Bay confirmed to once again serve as the second chapter in the revived franchise's producer, if nothing else, it's sure to boast a spectacular budget (although here's hoping that less cash is spent on CGI and more on enabling returning screenwriters Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec to provide us with a compelling narrative next time around, eh?) and mainstream viewer-baiting guest stars aplenty.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will sneak into UK cinemas nationwide this October 17th, with the sequel set to hit theatres across the world on June 3rd, 2016.
