Paramount Pictures have this week unleashed the teaser trailer (below) for their impending animated comedy movie The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. The much-anticipated sequel to 2004's The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie features nearly all of the hit TV series' original cast members (as well as The Legend of Zorro and Shrek 2's Antonio Banderas), combining hand-drawn 2-D and live-action 3-D animation to bring the show's storylines and artistic style firmly into this decade - for better or for worse.
At least the non live-action sequences displayed in the opening moments of the preview trail are looking like enough of a draw to lure suspicious SpongeBob fanatics back into cinemas. Instigating a warm sense of familiarity in the first few scenes of Sponge Out of Water should prove to be a reassuring approach on Paramount's part, allowing us to rekindle our passion for these nautical characters before they step out of the high seas and onto dry land, thereby moving into literally uncharted territory. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water will leave cinemas worldwide soaking on February 6th, 2015.
