Universal Pictures have this week announced the official release dates for their currently-in-the-works fantasy motion pictures The Huntsman and The Mummy. Both titles virtually speak for themselves in this instance, but in case the references have somehow flown over readers' heads, the former is a direct spin-off from the gothic 2012 fairytale blockbuster Snow White and the Huntsman (which starred 500 Days of Summer's Kristen Stewart and Rush's Chris Hemsworth as its titular protagonists), whilst the latter takes the form of a live-action reboot of the increasingly wayward archaeology-themed franchise which kicked off in 1999 thanks to Brendan Fraser (oh, how the mighty have fallen, eh?).
Twilight enthusiasts hoping for Stewart to reprise her role as Snow White in The Huntsman might be well advised to dive for cover, though, since (as the title suggests, in fairness) the studio have currently only officially confirmed that Hemsworth (or, as we like to call him, Thor) and Prometheus' Charlize Theron will return as the Huntsman and White's sinister stepmother respectively in the aforementioned companion piece. That's all we know on the project so far, yet our understanding of just what The Mummy may have in store for us in two years' time is even less comprehensive - we know for certain that Total Recall (the 2012 version, mind you) helmer Len Wiseman is on directing duties with Alex Kurtzman currently purportedly tweaking the screenplay...and that's about it. When more news on either production does land, however, you can bet your bottom medieval dollar that there'll be no better place to read about it than right here at On-Screen. Stay tuned!
The Huntsman will carve a path into cinemas worldwide on April 22nd, 2016 and The Mummy will rise from its tomb to menace viewers across the globe on June 24th, 2016.
