The femme fatale of the original Captain America movie confirms she won't be back...In a surprising turn of events today, one star of 2011's hit superhero film Captain America: The First Avenger (3.5/5) has confirmed that she won't be back for its sequel. Follow-up The Winter Soldier investigates the fate of the seemingly deceased ally Bucky Barnes, and its implications in Captain America's strive to find a place in the modern-day America. Today, though, Hayley Atwell has revealed that she will not be back for the second film in this new mini-franchise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Peggy Carter. Peggy was Steve Rogers' romantic ploy in the original, but given that she was only present in his World War Two years, perhaps it makes sense for Atwell not to return. Nevertheless, in my review of the first film, I did cite Atwell as being one of the finest elements of the flawed instalment, so the writers of the sequel will have to work hard to fill this Peggy-shaped void! Captain America: The Winter Soldier bursts into cinemas everywhere on April 4th, 2014.
