Rayman Origins And Crysis 2- The Quick Reviews

I've been loving playing through both Rayman Origins and Crysis 2 recently, so I thought I'd give you concrete scores and verdicts on the two great titles right here. However, rather than taking my time and providing long write-ups for games you probably already know whether you'll buy or not (you may even have bought them both!), I thought I'd try this new feature, where I'll sum up the positive and negative attributes of the games in question and give a brief verdict at the bottom of the mini-reviews!
RAYMAN ORIGINS
THE GOOD:
  • Beautiful graphics, some of the best hand-drawn animations ever in a video game
  • Tight 2D platforming gameplay for fans and newcomers
  • Loads of replay value with collectibles and bonus worlds
THE BAD:
  • One half of the game requires players to replay all previous levels just to find collectibles
  • A weak storyline, although that is somewhat a pre-requisite of 2D side-scrollers
THE VERDICT: Rayman Origins is a fantastic reboot for the franchise, and while it has its minor shortcomings, I'd love to see a sequel in the near future. 9/10

CRYSIS 2
THE GOOD:
  • Quite possibly the most realistic graphics engine of this generation
  • An intense, unpredictable plot
  • Mostly superb gameplay...
THE BAD:
  • ...Hampered by weak AI enemies
  • The checkpoint and health systems can be vastly unfair too
  • Not a very well-rounded conclusion
THE VERDICT: CryTek seem to be a little too eager for a sequel here, forgetting to give us a worthwhile conclusion to an otherwise epic narrative, but other than that this is quite simply the best shooter released last year, and comes highly recommended for FPS fans! 9/10
