Looks like Spark didn't have Battlefront in store after all...
What with all of the speculation regarding Spark Interactive's possible involvement with Star Wars: Battlefront III, to say the least it's come as a big surprise that it is not that threequel which they are developing. Instead, the developer will bring us Lost Planet 3 in the near future, it was confirmed recently. Capcom have announced that they intend this sci-fi shooter to be a reboot of sorts for the series in much the same vein as X-Men: First Class, whereby its events take place decades before the antics on ice planet ENI.3 occurred in the first two games. This is probably because LP: Extreme Condition and LP2 weren't received all that well critically or commercially, a reality which likely forced Capcom to find this little-known new development team to resurrect their franchise with a bang. Let's just hope that they can really produce something special, as with Crysis 3 to compete with too in Spring 2013, Lost Planet 3 has a heck of a job on its hands becoming next year's first must-have shooter.
