A quick glimpse at what the future holds for Jim Henson's characters...
As loyal followers of On-Screen will know, The Muppets has been one of my favourite movies of 2012 so far- few other entries have managed to match its sheer hilarious brilliance, its fearlessness to tread on much lamented staples of its own genre and above all the unique charm and wonder it possessed throughout. It's been confirmed that a sequel to the film is headed our way next year, and via Collider we've discovered a few new details on the second entry in the series from writer Nicholas Stoller. The film will take place some time after this year's musical romp; it won't feature fully either Gary (Jason Segel) or Mary (Amy Adams) but they'll still cameo and we can expect some new human protagonists and Muppets in their place; and the script will take some cues from classic movies like The Great Muppets Caper and The Muppets Take Manhattan while heading off in its own direction. If Disney have their way, The Muppets 2 will be with us in Summer 2013- I'd say a more reasonable estimate will be the Autumn or Winter of next year.
