Agent Carter Announced

Captain America may be gone, but the adventures of Peggy Carter go on!
ABC and Marvel Studios have today announced the development of a new TV drama, Agent Carter, for broadcast later this year. The World War Two-set series will star Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, the first member of the fictitious SHIELD organization and a former ally to the seemingly deceased Captain America during the conflict.

In a rather unique fashion, this particular project may fulfil a wide variety of functions- on the one hand, Agent Carter is a follow-up to the historical events of 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, as well as a 'Marvel One-Shot' (which shares the show's name) that was bundled with the Iron Man 3 Blu-Ray in September 2013. Meanwhile, however, the series will also depict the creation of SHIELD and its members' first undercover missions, acting as a prequel of sorts to the currently-airing Marvel's Agents of SHIELD to boot. If ABC, Atwell and the programme's executive producers- Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas- can find a balance for these various continuity strands, though, then this latest televisual outing from Marvel has every right to better its predecessors.

Agent Carter will première on ABC this Autumn.
