December 2013: Best Release

FROZEN
December's entertainment roster may have looked formidable at the outset, yet by the end of the month, the potential candidates for our Best Release award had slimmed considerably. Gone were Doctor Who: The Time of the Doctor, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and (the admittedly superior) Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, leaving only Arrow's mid-season finale Three Ghosts and Walt Disney Animation Studios' latest cinematic instalment to vie for the crown.

Frozen is ultimately set apart from the crowd by its makers' dedication to dissembling the expectations of both its stereotypical and critical viewerships. Only Idina Menzel's voice will be instantly recognised by seasoned film fans, but each member of the cast has their own unique talent to lend to the production. Of course, without the studio's reprisal of the classic musical genre established in animated greats like The Lion King and Aladdin, this would never have been such a spellbinding motion picture, and if Disney have any wits about them, then the success of The Muppets and this festive beauty will inspire further lyric-infused projects in the near future.

2013 is over, then, and our monthly Best Release shortlist is thus complete. The feature series will return this year, of course- although not necessarily in the manner that our followers will anticipate. Here's a full round-up of each of the twelve entertainment releases which defined 2013:
