Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor Pre-Alpha Gameplay Trailer Released

The story of The Lord of the Rings continues (well, sort of) in Monolith's new fantasy game...
Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment and Monolith Productions have today released the first gameplay trailer for their upcoming fantasy video game Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor. Scheduled to retail before year's end, the next-generation product's narrative takes place between the events of Peter Jackson's recent film adaptations of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Now, any dedicated follower of this blog will know our stance on prequels, in-between chapters and the like- in short, our foreknowledge of characters' survival or demises and the impending events in the narrative universe tends to dissipate any intended atmosphere of tension within the instalment in question. With that said, Shadow looks to be a rather potent beast in its new trail (below), which depicts the game world in a pre-alpha (i.e. yet to be beta-tested) state. The much-vaunted 'Nemesis' system is a key aspect of Monolith's new engine, whereby Orcs which the player has not managed to slaughter or control during their playthrough will evolve into new ranks of adversaries who will pose a greater threat to the protagonist, Talion. At this rate, Warner Brothers' latest licensed Rings tie-in has all the makings of the first must-have next-generation experience...

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor will storm PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC consoles worldwide this Autumn.
