Marvel certainly are looking ahead with their film franchise nowadays, with Thor; Captain America; X-Men: First Class; The Amazing Spider-Man; Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance and The Avengers and a all announced for release in the coming years, and today we can add a third Iron Man film to that list, confirmed to be directed by Shane Black. No, that name definitely isn't as iconic as, say, Steven Spielberg or Michael Bay, but with the memorable Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang already under his directorial belt he's not someone to be scoffed at either. That Iron Man 3 isn't set for worldwide première until Summer 2013 will give Black plenty of time to shape up on his knowledge of Tony Stark and his metal-clad alter ego, hopefully allowing him to produce a movie rich in comic lore and free of the bonds of The Avengers (Iron Man 2 struggled to balance plot with obvious pressure to set up the 2012 team-up) that does Stan Lee's comic book hero justice. The announcement follows Don Cheadle's revelation that the creators of the Iron Man films are also in talks to do a spin-off based around ally War Machine in the near future.
