Doctor Who: The Hounds Of Artemis Review (3.5/5)

As with The Runaway Train last year, the Guardian newspaper has released Doctor Who audio exclusive The Hounds of Artemis months before it hits stores, although I'm struggling to see quite why it's taken so long to arrive: Hounds takes place in the fifth season, with Amy's mind wiped of Rory and the Doctor taking her across time and space while he tries to shake his guilt, but really this has no effect on a story that only borders on being compelling and for the most part is just average. Claire Corbett does, to be fair, provide some light humour in her neat interpretation of Amy Pond and Matt Smith puts all his energy into all the roles he takes on board, yet the plot is really quite dire even by the standards of the worst episodes of Who, following loosely the opening of Artemis' tomb in the 1930s and the unleashing of killer hounds but switching narratives too often for listeners to keep up. If The Guardian had wanted a massive Who exclusive on their hands, The Hounds of Artemis definitely wasn't it, redeemed highly by its readers but marred by the rubbish tale it tries to tell.
