Smallville: Icarus Review (3.5/5)

Sometimes Smallville has episodes which do move the plot of the season along but feel more like filler towards the flagship adventures of that run. Icarus is a prime example of this kind of story- a major development comes in the story of Clark and Lois, the influence of season baddie Darkseid is felt throughout and ultimately a character we've grown to love over the past year makes his final appearance, yet other than that nothing groundbreaking really happens, making it an extremely irksome distraction in the lead up to the Man of Steel fulfilling his destiny. Carter Hall and Courtney Whitmore (from Absolute Justice, a great two-hour movie that took place midway through Season Nine) make their returns to aid against an Act that forces all 'vigilantes' to register with the government, building on a theme of the world not yet wanting its heroes to be the inspirational figures they could, and leading Clark to question whether Metropolis would welcome him donning red and blue tights to become Superman. Since so little happens in Icarus other than some big plot  arc leaps, I can't really say much about it, but let's just say that it probably won't go down as one of Season Ten's best.
