DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION (9/10)
In many other less eventful years of video gaming, Deus Ex: Human Revolution would have easily topped this list. But as its position in the Top Ten shows, Human Revolution's weak boss battles and limited replay value can't be forgiven easily when too many titles this year haven't stumbled into such blatant pitfalls. Nonetheless, Adam Jensen's epic journey across vast, open cities in the future, racing to stop the outbreak of a technologically advanced civil war, was a hugely engaging storyline to take on, and one which will be remembered as one of the year's best campaigns. The visuals were pristine too, obviously a video game rather than a realistic depiction of society, yet all the better for it, golden in all but colour. And of course the sense of choice that fuelled the gameplay really appeared to make a difference, even if the consequences had little impact on the player's ultimate ending. What with the likes of Skyrim dominating the world of role-playing games in 2011, Revolution could be argued as unworthy of its own title- however, those lucky enough to have played it will doubtless cherish the memories they shared with the latest Deus Ex, a flawed but rewarding title.
