Filling The Doctor Who Void- News Roundup (28th November-4th December)

Another week, another batch of interesting Who news stories to fill this drama-sized void...
  • Here you can see the cover for Shada, a novel adaptation of a cancelled episode in the classic series originally written by Douglas 'Hitchhiker' Adams. This new version of the Tom Baker story is penned by Doctor Who veteran Gareth Roberts, and is due for release next March.
  • Could the new series of Who be shooting down under next year? According to Australian blog TV Tonight Steven Moffat and the show's producers are considering shooting multiple episodes (probably a two-parter) of the 2013 run of the 50th Anniversary celebrations in Australia next Summer. The BBC have not yet commented on this rumour, but expect the first details on Series Seven in the next issue of DWM, out on December 15th.
  • There's been more talk of the supposedly confirmed movie adaptation of Who, too- 'director' David Yates has said: "We're principally looking for a writer, and we'll start with that. Everything has to start with a great script, so that's more important than casting. It's such a wonderful character and such a wonderful world. It's a long journey and we're going to take our time with it." The show's exec Moffat replied on Twitter: "Doctor Who is a vitally important BBC brand with a huge international audience, not even Hollywood can start from scratch. There simply are no plans for a movie at the moment. When it happens it will need to star television's Who- and there's only ever one of those at a time." So for now, take anything you hear regarding the film with a pinch on salt...
  • On a more definitive note, the BBC have confirmed that Doctor Who: The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe will air at 7pm on Christmas Day at BBC One. Three weeks to go! (Then eight months, but try not to think about that.
