GameInformer Magazine have today unveiled the first official storyline and gameplay details on both Batman: Arkham Origins and its handheld spin-off Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. We've rounded up all the big reveals here below, as well as a great assortment of screenshots from the main Arkham Origins game below the two lists...
BATMAN: ARKHAM ORIGINS
- Arkham Origins takes place on Christmas Eve, with Black Mask placing a bounty on Batman's head and the Dark Knight facing off against enemies like the Penguin and Falcone to find out why. Even the Gotham City Police are suspicious of Batman too, as these are the early years of his story.
- The game will use the same combat engine as Arkham City so that there's gameplay continuity, but there will be plenty of new enemy types to fight against as a slightly more unhinged Batman.
- In order to fast travel around Gotham City (which is twice the size of Arkham City), players must disable towers using increased special abilities. From there, Batman can call in the Batwing to pilot him around Gotham, with a remote claw a la Just Cause 2 also helping traversal.
- There will be random 'Crime In Progress' missions for Batman to boost his XP across Gotham throughout the storyline, plus spin-off GCPD missions that will allow the Dark Knight to gain the confidence of his future allies.
- The Dark Knight detective system will get further emphasis this time around for a more Sherlock-esque feel, but still won't get too much in the way of the combat or storyline.
BATMAN: ARKHAM ORIGINS- BLACKGATE
- Blackgate takes place after Arkham Origins' main storyline, when there's a prison uprising at Blackgate Penitentiary that Batman has to go and stop.
- The opening level of this 2D handheld game will see Batman learning about the crisis in Gotham before he heads over to Blackgate.
- Again, other key villains from DC lore will feature in this adventure, some of them likely taken out of action in Origins or again feeding the idea of a younger Batman meeting his foes for the first time.
Batman: Arkham Origins launches on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo WiiU and PC on October 25th, with Batman: Arkham Origins- Blackgate launching on the same day for PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS.
