Star Wars Future Film Schedule Announced

Return to a galaxy far, far away with Disney and Lucasfilm for five consecutive years!
Speaking officially at CinemaCon today, Disney Studios have today confirmed the structure of their recently announced new saga of Star Wars films. The new set of movies will take place after the events of Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi, with both numbered and standalone instalments planned to bring a galaxy far, far away back as the centrepiece of the film screen in the second half of this decade. Here's the list of films and release windows as it currently stands:

  • STAR WARS EPISODE VII- SUMMER 2015
  • STAR WARS STANDALONE FILM I- SUMMER 2016
  • STAR WARS EPISODE VIII- SUMMER 2017
  • STAR WARS STANDALONE FILM II- SUMMER 2018
  • STAR WARS EPISODE IX- SUMMER 2019
In case you're wondering, yes, that does mean that from 2015 onwards, we'll be getting new Star Wars films on a yearly consecutive basis! It's a thrilling prospect to be sure, and while for many fans the idea of an annualised COD format for the series could be a somewhat divisive concept, for this writer and fan it's just too exciting to be worried about for now. The icing on the cake? That JJ Abrams is on board to direct Episode VII should make it a premiere instalment to remember!

Star Wars Episode VII is set for release in Summer 2015.
