LucasArts Closure Announced

Sad news for Star Wars fans- because it means that 1313 and First Assault are headed to the gutter...
In a tragic turn of events, Disney Interactive Entertainment have today confirmed the closure of LucasArts Studios. The video game development studio has been renowned for creating hit Star Wars games such as Battlefront, Empire At War and The Force Unleashed in the past two decades, so to hear that they will not be back for further efforts is a genuine shame. Disney will now be creating licensed Star Wars games off their own back, but you can bet that most of these will relate directly to their upcoming 2015 film Star Wars Episode VII.

The worst part of all this? With LucasArts' closure, it seems pretty much inevitable that their planned projects of the next-generation title Star Wars 1313 and their DLC predecessor to Battlefront III, Star Wars: First Assault have been cancelled as well. 1313 was one of this writer's most anticipated games of 2013, and thus knowing that we won't get to see it released in the months ahead is just a strange and harrowing feeling for me. Thankfully, the core members of the LucasArts team will at least likely be integrated into Disney's licensed team for future projects.

We'll bring you all the updates on future Star Wars video game projects as they come in the weeks ahead. For now, have a watch below to relive one of the finest moments in LucasArts' gaming history.
