Who News: New 50th Videos Released, DVDs Announced

Doctor Who Series 7 Part 2 (DVD) with FREE Exclusive Art CardsMore news on the 50th Anniversary Special, plus the BBC announce a couple of exciting new 2013 DVDs!
It seems as if Doctor Who news is reaching us in big hordes by the day now as the 50th Anniversary Special's filming gets underway, a trend which has continued in full force today. Below, we've rounded up all the latest official and unofficial developments in the realms of Who both in terms of filming and retail releases. Here's our guide to everything fans will want to know...

  • SERIES 7 CONTINUES ON DVD AND BLU-RAY- The BBC have today announced that Doctor Who: Series 7 Part 2 will be coming to DVD and Blu-Ray retailers everywhere. Compiling together The Snowmen, The Bells Of Saint John, The Rings Of Ahkaten, Cold War, Hide, Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS, The Crimson Horror, Nightmare In Silver and The Name Of The Doctor (rumoured as the title for Steven's finale), this new set will come ahead of a full Season Seven boxset later this year, providing us with a few juicy teasers for the 50th Anniversary too. Doctor Who: Series 7 Part 2 will retail on May 20th, two days after the finale's broadcast.
  • REGENERATION ON DVD- Another DVD announcement from the BBC today, this one with particular interest to casual 50th Anniversary merchandise collectors. A boxset housing all ten regeneration stories from Doctor Who's history (with the Eighth-Ninth sadly never filmed) will be released in the near future- that means you can get The Tenth Planet, The War Games, Planet Of The Spiders, Logopolis, The Caves Of Androzani, Time And The Rani, The Movie, Bad Wolf/The Parting Of The Ways and The End Of Time in one extras-free boxset for a pretty reasonable price of £45 this Summer. Fans of The Tenth Planet had best wait for the solo release, though- that 2-disc set will come packed with all the extras fans have come to know and love. Doctor Who: Regeneration will hit DVD retailers on June 10th.
  • THE 50TH HITS LONDON- Filming on Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary Special has come to London for the past two days. With the announcement that Jemma Redgrave will return as UNIT's new head of operations Kate Stewart in the episode, the cameras have rolled at UNIT's base of the Tower Of London, as well as on Trafalgar Square. Of course, Matt Smith teased us with the word 'paintings' recently regarding the episode's plot, so perhaps that the Square houses the National Gallery could be relevant- could there be paintings of past Doctors, living paintings even, awaiting us inside? It seemed the Doctor was being flown off by UNIT while hanging onto the bottom of the TARDIS, with Kate saying that she was "under orders from Queen Elizabeth I", who we currently know is being played by Joanna Page in an early cameo scene with the Zygons that should also introduce David's Tenth Doctor and Billie's Rose back into the action. It's all rather complex right now, but we're sure that as we move closer to the episode's broadcast everything will start coming together! The 50th Anniversary Special is due to air on November 23rd. Catch two brand new videos featuring official filming and a message from Strax below...
Doctor Who continues with Cold War at 6pm on BBC1 this Saturday April 13th.
