The BBC have today confirmed that their supernatural drama Being Human will cease production on new episodes after its current season. Toby Whithouse's hit fantasy show has broadcast on BBC3 for five consecutive years with that number of seasons now, so fans will no doubt be sad to see such a successful programme leave the broadcast schedules after its fifth and final season concludes airing next month.
There are rumours abound that this development may allow Doctor Who script regular Toby Whithouse to one day take over from Steven Moffat as executive producer on that science-fiction legend after Season Eight airs in 2014 (and possibly early 2015, we're not 100% sure on the structure yet), but for now the man behind Being Human simply wished his fans the best. Whithouse offers the conclusion that Episode 6- the show's finale- will be "truly climactic" thanks to his advance foreknowledge of the show's cancellation by the BBC in the process of writing the new season.
With Merlin having concluded in December, the BBC of course now needs to work on new fantasy dramas to entice back fans of both shows, but at least these two supernatural hits have proved that there's always potential for new and thriving British talent to be discovered in such productions. Here's the official BBC Press Synopsis released to tease the five episodes of Being Human remaining: "Hal, Tom and Alex will face the most fearsome adversary imaginable- the Devil. Is this a one-way ticket to the apocalypse? What sacrifices must be made to postpone Armageddon? The father of evil will rise. Captain Hatch is just itching to inflict chaos on mankind. With the Men In Grey out of action and Crumb running rampant, Hal, Tom and Alex have yet to fully realise the scale of the terror that awaits. Or the magnitude of running a seaside hotel. The end has begun..."
On behalf of the show's fanbase, I'd like to say a massive thanks to the dedicated production team for bringing us five incredible seasons of the programme, a BBC3 drama that truly will never be forgotten. A preview trailer for the show's finale and its remaining five episodes can be seen below...
Being Human continues on BBC3 this Sunday February 10th at 10pm.
