A brief release delay for WiiU fans as one of 2013's biggest video games goes multi-platform!
Ubisoft have today announced as part of a financial report that Rayman Legends has suffered a minor delay, and also confirmed that this was as a result of the much-anticipated platforming video game now coming to multiple platforms.
This shift in development decision from developers Ubisoft Montpieller comes as a result of an adverse reaction to WiiU exclusivity when the one-console release was confirmed at last year's Nintendo E3 conference, meaning that the developers have had to find ways to deal with the lack of a GamePad and thus make this big sequel more along the lines of Rayman Origins. No doubt with just 4% of Ubisoft's fourth quarter sales for fiscal year 2013 (December 2012-February 2013) having been accounted for by the various WiiU launch titles, the publisher has realised that shipping on WiiU alone wouldn't be an extremely strong marketing strategy! It's a feasible route they've taken here, and while the brief delay is sure to irk WiiU owners, it should allow for a wider sales margin for the project as a whole. Indeed, what with Grand Theft Auto V having been pushed back to the same month, one wonders if perhaps Microsoft are planning on debuting this as a launch title for Xbox 720 too...
Rayman Legends will now ship on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo WiiU on September 21st.
