The man behind The Girl Who Waited, The Angels Take Manhattan take more returns to Doctor Who this Spring!
At the fan-hosted Gallifrey 1 conference today, the director of Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary Special episode has been announced. It's confirmed that Nick Hurran will helm the feature-length adventure, which commences shooting in the Spring.
Hurran's recent career is brimming with Doctor Who experience: we're looking at the man behind the visionary visual and narrative masterpieces that were Series Six's The Girl Who Waited and The God Complex and Series Seven Part One's Asylum Of The Daleks and The Angels Take Manhattan. Nick hasn't been directing any episodes for the upcoming Spring Anniversary season, so presumably he's been working towards bracing himself for a truly epic adventure to shoot in the months ahead. So far, we've only got Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman confirmed for the cast as the Doctor and Clara Oswald respectively, yet Steven Moffat hinted to the press earlier this week that The Eleven Doctors isn't out of the question ("Getting the other Doctors involved would be very fitting for the anniversary episode, wouldn't it?", he says) and it's not out of the question either that classic/modern companions will make returns too.
Whatever the truth behind the storyline of this monumental Anniversary adventure, we do know a few facts for sure. Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary Special episode will be written by Steven Moffat, directed by Nick Hurran, star Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman, definitely be longer than the average 45-minute episode (think 60-70 minutes!) and air in standard-definition, HD and 3D on BBC1 as well as releasing for a brief period in cinemas too.
Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary Special enters production this April, and airs November 23rd on BBC1.
