The lost finale of the First Doctor is animated to complete his epic denouement!
BBC Worldwide have today made the exciting announcement that classic Doctor Who story The Tenth Planet will get its very own DVD release in the UK for the first time later this year. This should mark a landmark event for fans in terms of big new celebratory releases debuted to coincide with the show's 50th Anniversary this November, and indeed since the DVD range as a whole began with the series' return in 2005.
Previously, this final adventure of the First Doctor's travels in the TARDIS was lost from the BBC Archives having been thrown away. Thankfully, the Doctor Who Restoration Team have elected to create an animation of Episode 4- the lost adventure- in order to complete the story along with the three other episodes currently available. Together, these episodes will form the first tale of the Cybermen on the Moon, and indeed signal the original Time Lord's regeneration and thus the commencement of the Patrick Troughton era.
Other classic era Who tales planned for release in the groundbreaking 50th Anniversary year include The Ark In Space, The Aztecs, Galaxy 4, The Visitation, Inferno, The Mind Of Evil, Terror Of The Zygons, The Green Death, The Ice Warriors and Scream Of The Shalka, with new series releases for 2013 including Series 7- Part 2 and The Complete Seventh Series along with plenty of unexpected surprises to come.
Doctor Who: The Tenth Planet is set for release on UK DVD in Autumn 2013. Doctor Who returns to BBC1 for a new season of blockbuster adventures on Easter Saturday, March 30th.
