Doctor Who Series Eight Confirmed

The hit BBC science-fiction phenomenon will return for a ninth consecutive year of adventures in 2014...
The Radio Times magazine has today confirmed that Doctor Who will return for an eighth full season of episodes in the near future. This thrilling news comes in the midst of Caroline Skinner's reveal of the Ice Warriors' return to the show in its anniversary season and indeed BBC Drama Chief Ben Stephenson's confirmation of a 3D and big-screen 50th Anniversary special episode that the BBC aims to make as much of an event of as the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics were in 2012.

"To dispel any rumours of doubt," the Radio Times' editors say, "Our sources confirm that after filming of the 50th Anniversary episode, the production team will be girding themselves for a Christmas Special, Series Eight and beyond..." It's a brilliant piece of news for Who considering that other fantasy and real-world dramas such as Merlin, Being Human, The Fades and The Hour have been axed left, right and centre these past few months. Better yet, when questioned on the matter of an alleged lack of totally new episodes this year, Who's brand manager Edward Russell had this to say on Twitter: "The BBC hasn't announced everything they're doing yet. There is a LOT to come.! There are some mind blowing things ahead, I promise. The BBC has far from announced everything that will be on screens this year."

We'll have all the news on Doctor Who's anniversary season Series Seven Part Two, the 50th Anniversary celebrations, the Christmas Special, Series Eight and beyond for you in the weeks ahead! Doctor Who returns to BBC1 on Saturday 30th March.
